Might be telling people to shut up Pete but look through the Twitter profiles and you'll find most people linking to their own personal site, to their own Twitter account (never figured that one out) or their MySpace. Facebook rarely figures. Possibly because of their lack of vanity Urls in the past but i wonder whether at heart it's the lack of focus when you hit Facebook which is the reason for this. Still not convinced jack of all trades is the best option for them.

Totally agree Amanjeev,

1. FB so far doesn't have trails of past status messages. For me it's important to have this so I know I am in sync with my team when I skip a day or two without checking their status.

2. FB also doesn't have a reply button for a particular status message. For me this is crucial to answer questions of helps needed within the network of followers.

haha, I agree! No disrespect to parakeets but the name is irritating. I've heard the word 'twittering' used when slyly gossiping about others who may or may not be meth addicts. I reply 'I think you mean to say 'twitching'...?'

I believe that there isn't any feature in Facebook that allows users to see all the status messages of their friends or show their own. It only shows the latest updates.

While I'm glad Facebook added SMS status updates, most Facebook users don't know anything about the SMS stuff and thus don't use it very often.

They blogged about it recently...but yeah, I think the way it exists now (esp. in its prominence) came out during the re-design. At the very least, I know the SMS stuff has been around for a couple of weeks or more because I've been playing with it (and so have others).

I think SixApart makes better sense than anyone as a Twitter buyer or partner. It would be so easy for Twitter to become an integrated part of their disparate blogging platforms. It's similar to their offerings, and yet it fills a niche.

Be it MT, Typepad, LiveJournal, or Vox, all it would take is one extra form blank, and boom. Post to Twitter.

I have a Twitter client that works great most of the time. It's called gmail chat. And really, if Facebook had the same thing, it WOULD be just as useful as Twitter.

But I predict (and hope for) something a bit more basic. Facebook isn't exporting your status updates yet as an individual feed (you can get a feed for your pals, but not for yourself). If they changed that, and Twitter allowed us to import that feed, all would be well. No crazy mergers necessary.

The two features are used quite differently for some. As an avid facebook and Jaiku user, I can testify to that. I use my facebook status strictly for my friends and allow it to become a lot more personal than my jaiku updates. With Jaiku, my status is more for networking purposes; to find other people with the same interests.

One of Twitter's biggest problems is its name. It sounds seriously nerdy and slightly homosexual. Not a good tone for mass adoption. Yes I said nerdy not geeky.
