You can find events, check and buy tickets here: www.tickets3g.com . The site is made for the iPhone. Best for following ticket prices to the last minute and buying when the price is right, even if you're already at the event. No need to wait at home to buy.

I'm really surprised that Gigotron is not on here as it has a great list of concert data and is one of the best out there for an iphone app. They also have a cool website at www.gigotron.com

A bit of a mis-title on here. You said 'social music', and yet the only site that has a social element that you listed is Concert Attack.

http://gigfreaks.com is also a great way (some will say even the greatest) to find concerts and get recommendations on the best gigs you should attend based on your musical taste.

Concert communities are starting to popup everywhere... design, ease of use, and the amount of listings is key!! Most sites are now using a mySpace feed, or Ticketmaster but cleaning the data is a huge problem. preAmped.com is the new kid on the block and I think its going to be the one that stands out. Pulls from almost every ticket vendor out there along with the social networks.. it does a great job cleaning and plotting.. check it out, it just came online and already has some serious functionaily.

Sa-riot's comment is right on. I run Bandloop: http://www.bandloop.com and we make sure to include the underground bands and venues that most concert sites overlook. We also have tools for bloggers and an iPhone app on the way.

another option that got overlooked: take a a more grassroots approach. get involved with your local music community. seek out local music blogs + networks. if you can't find any, start your own. listen to college radio. social networking sites like facebook are quite useful in promoting local music , but corporate-sponsored sites tend to miss a lot of non-corporate friendly bands and underground venues (i.e., some of the best live music around.)

Everyone here in New York is buzzing about new one that just launched Thrillcall.com
Tickets, video, sharing all in one interface. Easy to use, but it's sometimes slow, I hope they improve that.

Sort of like Kayak for concerts, but with more music integrated.

My favorite way to find concerts near me is the iTunes plugin iConcertcal;
http://www.iconcertcal.com/

Once you add the plugin, it searches the artists in your itunes and puts all upcoming shows as well as music releases on a calendar that you can see via the visualizer. You can also add the concerts on the calendar with iCal.

I rarely miss a show that I really want to see due to this plugin.
