Pete,

I think the more time spent on a Bebo profile is the sheer fact that it's probably more "readable". I can't tell you how many MySpace profiles I've seen where I just killed the tab in Firefox because it was irritating me trying to read it.

I wonder if we'll ever see a backlash against bad profiles, like we did against animated gifs back in the mid 90's. We probably have to wait until MySpace users grow up a little ;)

Yeah, Bebo skins are neat. It's just a shame that you have to download them first - seems like a good way to spread viruses. Isn't there a cut and paste feature like on MySpace?

Bebo is a much better service IMO, but first mover advantage is paying wild dividends to MySpace.

I think that Bebo has the first-mover advantage in the UK/IRE and that very advantage in the UK is exactly why Viacom + Bebo = bad fit.

Viacom = huge US-centric media company.

Bebo = massive UK/IRE social network with decent US traction.

You know its funny; I live in the UK and like to think most of my friends are 'switched' on digitally, but I dont know a single person who uses Bebo. Neither does anybody I ever ask.

Also, you should check out the Nielsen stats for June 2006 in the UK. The average Bebo user spends well over 2 hours on the website per month, whereas our own Live Spaces has a measly 8minutes. Despite the number of *accountS* Microsoft claims, the harsh reality is their network isnt sticky at all. Advertisers lose.

Yea Pete many bebo skins are only available in download forms.
I think it's because bebo skins has more embeded codes and it probably takes to much codes spaces for the bebo site.

Perhaps it'll change in the future.

Jamie, if you are out of school, which you likely are, you don't fit the profile for Bebo. The site is really geared toward students to connect with mates from school. I have a Bebo profile - but alas, no friends, as I don't have a school to register under. The site is expanding its scope, but demographics may explain the lack of awareness for the site in your circle.

myspace has got wider range of people and you can customise it more..

I find that bebo is GREAT as it is MUCH easier to use than Myspace. Sure it has less things than Myspace, but Bebo is still up and comming and im sure theyll add more things later on in the years to come. Its also easy as it has schools and colleges that arent just in certain places. Being in a country called New Zealand, i found it harder to find my friends and stuff as it didnt have much options.

Bebo is so crap. I was on it for about a year and it bored the hell out of me. Myspace is so much more fun and isn't full of chavs trying to slag others off. You can customise myspace more to make it more individual and Bebos skins are wank. Sorry but they are. Theyre like for 12 year olds. And i dunno who said Bebo isn't for school kids but it is. Its pansie.

personally i like myspace a lot more
it gives me a lot more freedom to express myself
and i find the layout of it all a lot more organised
whereas bebo seems to throw everything onto the same page
saying that i do spend more time on bebo, mainly because a lot more of my friends have bebo than myspace
i also get to talk to more people from different countries on myspace
and i can hide my top friends [because that thing just annoys me!]

bebo does everything for you whereas you have to do most of it yourself on myspace.

I have both and personally like myspace better due to the unlimited customability of the site. You basically have to become a programmer to make a new skin. The only reason I have bebo is because I talk to some people in the U.K. but in the U.S. myspace is KING. The other thing I think is rediculous is how people say you can meet more people on bebo. That's Stupid cause you can't even browse for people on Bebo like you can on myspace. Your limited to search through names and emails what good is that if you want to meet new people? Plus no bulletins that's whack. there's no way to stir people up. BORING!!!

I have both myspace and bebo... me n my friend hav been arguing wich is better. I am on bebos side. Personally i think bebo is way better, for these reasons...

-Bebo has better skins.
-No copying and pasting all that HTML codes crap.
-Bebo is easier to use.
-Bebo is mor user friendly.
-On Bebo the skins r made to fit ur writing so u can actually read it unlike myspace.
-Bebo has mor features such as hundreds of applications

The only reason i hav a Myspace account is because mor ppl hav Myspace. This is mainly because Myspace is older and gets mor publicity, on another note Bebo is still adding stuff to ther site.

i am a user of both bebo and myspace and i think that myspace is alot better. i think bebo is more used as not many people have myspace and its simple but complicated. alot of people i know that have bebo and not myspace say its because you have to use codes and its confusing. there just lazy. bebo has to much and there is soo much to do but that makes it overcrowded. i still use both though.

The report above is incorrect. You CAN create your OWN skin on Bebo and its quite simple once you know whats required - and no code or html knowledge is required - unlike MySpace - which is why I swear by Bebo, and the layout and look on Bebo is far simpler and easier to move around / customise which is why it has appeal over MySpace.

The customise skins tool on bebo is so painfully simple and just not flexible at all - it is quite clearly geared towards those who lack the basic ability to copy and paste a couple of lines of code onto their profile.

I have used both Bebo and Myspace in the past, and I much prefer Myspace due to the more 'grown-up' feel of it.

To "saintdave" that kind of condescending comment is the reason why many are so happy with Bebo. You see, the majority of people do not know HTML or any other coding (and this, incidentally, does not make them any less of a human than those who do) , and so the ability to be able to make your own skin without any knowledge of that is a great thing. It really doesnt matter which is "better" everyone has their own preference - my comment was merely to point out that the report was inaccurate, as it stated that Bebo could not be customised - which is not the case.

i had bebo and i have to say that is the ULTIMATE shite i have ever came across...all people on bebo have their profiles as private so NOONE can add friends or even message people, there are a lot more hack on bebo than myspace coz all my friends had to make multiple profile because of the severely crap security to peoples privacy. i have been with myspace for like a year now and it is great, loads of apps loads of my friends are ACTUALLY on myspace and they dont need to make regular new profiles due to hacks, and myspace is just more fun. bebo is just a more chavvy and shite and for more people that are one step below being scum. no myspace is the better, 1 because myspace has SOOOO many more features than bebo, and 2 myspace is a GLOBAL site so it has more people than bebo anytime and is a lot more popular if you think about bebo compared globally.
