Current facebook apps (like Favorite Peeps) are very simple and provide very little value. People will get tired of them very quickly and won't want to waste the space on the page for those useless apps. I already see many items in my newsfeed about people removing apps. The "killer" apps will those apps which provide actual value.

Re: Facebook Frenzy: Facebook Apps Getting Acquired

I agree with Marshall - the Facebook directory is skewed. If you look at the number of users, most apps have less than 0.01% (2,700) of the FB user base. Lame.

Re: Facebook Frenzy: Facebook Apps Getting Acquired

Facebook's idea to create an ecology or a marketplace for businesses looks all set. I am curious to find out whether facebook might end up like myspace in the years to come due to competition or for whatever reason.

Re: Facebook Frenzy: Facebook Apps Getting Acquired

Another note: the way Facebook set up the system means that those that got popular on day one will probably be the biggest forever. Because apps are ranked by popularity first and foremost, the popular apps just keep getting more popular - a fact that has benefited both Slide.com and iLike.

I think Facebook mitigates this somewhat with their "Recently Popular" feature, which doesn't appear to pull up apps that aren't growing. Of course, the most popular apps are enjoying exponential growth, but they're some new apps on the first page of the Recently Popular tab.

Still, they could do more to drive app discovery, and I'm betting they probably will. Developers themselves will probably begin to use ads more than they are now, too. Especially when they start to see some money.
