Secondly, I'd like the search function to access the Spam and Trash folders easily.
1. Durable uploads. I find myself sending the same file over and over again to different people (e.g. resumes). Every time i send it, I have to upload it again and it just takes up that much more space with all the duplication. I should be able to use files I've already uploaded without having to forward an old e-mail, which is a very analog way of going about it.
2. Better labeling and filtering. I like to have e-mails skip the inbox and sent directly to folders or labels so I can better manage different e-mail topics. Gmail's multiple label system is great, but filters don't always understand that I want an e-mail to be marked with two different labels and the corresponding labels on the sidebar to indicate a new message.
3. More flexible contact searching. It's impossible to search non-initially meaning if I have a friend John who's e-mail is "j-smith@example.com" and his name isn't filled out, he won't come up when I type "smith" into the address box. I wish it would.
That's an incomplete list, but i can never remember it all...
1.)Themes or color options. I am sick of white.
2.)Ability to save photos to Picasa with one click.
3.)Folders in addition to labels so I can organize my labels.
I am sure there's something I am forgetting but those are most important!
Click settings, then the "Accounts" tab. Click "add another email address", fill in your info, and submit. Then click "add another mail account" and fill in the info there too.
4 - That's a browser limitation, not a Gmail limitation. The field used to point to a field accepts only one file at time. A solution would be use a Flash applet or Flash (or wait for a new HTTP standard and all browsers to catch up).
7 - That looks more like a Calendar feature than a Gmail feature, 'cause you can have some to-dos that actually have a deadline. But it would be nice if appointments for the day and deadlines could be shown in the "web clips" thing.
2) I think we'll be seeing this via Google Gears soon. Though as it has already been stated, set up Outlook, Opera, Thunderbird, etc to connect to your GMail account via POP and you've got an instant backup.
3) This feature is technically already there. You can set GMail up to check other POP accounts, this means other GMail accounts as well. I check 2 GMail accounts, a Comcast account, and 2 others all from my "main" GMail account. Only works with 5 accounts right now.
4) Never had a problem with this. As others have said, it's not GMail, it's HTML... I'd rather have this than Flash/Java.
5) Meh... I guess it could be useful.
6) Personally, I'd rather have the ability to remove an attachment from a message rather than having to worry about it later.
7) This belongs more in GCal. Thought tighter integration of GMail & GCal would be nice.
8, 9, & 10) Agreed.
-- You do realize that feature is already available? Try clicking on Settings > Accounts > Get mail from other accounts.
Add your other Gmail account, follow the instructions, then voila... you can get email from ALL your other Gmail accounts from your primary account.
AND, on top of that... you can SEND email from the other accounts FROM your main account.
You DO use the service, right??
1) Better contact management... Make it easier to update contact details.
2) Drag and drop labeling... Take the look and feel of Docs and Spreadsheets for labeling. Makes more sense.
3) RSS/Google Reader integration.
4) Built-in Conversation Preview and Macros.
5) Attach a Google Docs and Spreadsheets document to an email (this seems like an obvious missing feature).
SyncML support so I can sync the contacts with my mobile phone
Better contact management in general. I don't want everyone who emails me automatically added to my contacts.
Persistent searches, with easy ways of searching for emails received today, this week, this month etc.
alx
2) Ability to encrypt emails
3) Better contact management
4) More advanced filtering options (regex?)
5) Google reader integration
While not really a 'gmail' addition, a thunderbird extension that allowed almost total gmail integration would be nice.
Nowadays it is common for people to have multiple computers. All I want is to be able to configure Outlook on both my laptop and desktop to read my multiple Gmail accounts without having to worry about synchronization. Even with POP3 configured to leave messages on the server when downloaded, I can only have Outlook check my email on one comp so I don't split up my messages between the 2 systems. Is it really that difficult to set up IMAP so people can have their desktops, laptops, and smart phones configured to check the same account?
2) Ability to import old mail so it's searchable and in Gmail (e.g. old UNIX mail, even Outloook .psts)
3)*Tighter* integration with Picasa!
Pascal
2. Choose to add a recipient to my contacts. Similar to Add to Outlook
3. When viewing spam, have a label for "One of your Contacts"
4. Use Contact Groups in filters
5. Integrate some of the better add-ons like Label Colors and Label Folders
6. Larger List Sizes, customizable
7. Inline reading, another add-on
I like keeping track of which e-mails I'm awaiting a response to. I currently do this by composing the e-mail, sending it, going to "sent mail", clicking on the e-mail I just sent, and then labeling it "Awaiting Response." I could save TONS of time/clicks if they'd just let me label it in the Compose Mail menu!
Or at the very least, fix their POP service so that messages in the webmail interface are actually archived if access through POP (there is an option for this, but I don't know anyone who it works for), don't send copies of emails that a user sends to the POP forward, things like that. It is embarrassingly broken.
My additions:
* "Always SPAM" - You'd think by now the spam filter would realize that 100% of the Russian and Hebrew emails I receive are spam. Wouldn't it be nice if you could select a message, click "Always SPAM" and have Gmail list the handful of parameters associated with the given message that you would like to use for the "always" definition.
* "Pop-up" - I'd like an optional mouse-over "pop-up" in the list view of appx. the first paragraph of any given mail message that you hesitate over with the mouse - a la "pop-ups" in Wikipedia or cooliris.
* Enhanced Contacts Tools #1 Deduping - Various smart deduping of contacts... My friend Gurn Blanston is in my contacts 6 different times for 6 different email addresses, even though I only mail him at one at the moment. Present me with the six based on his name and allow me to nix the rest.
* Enhanced Contacts Tools #2 Thinning the Herd - Allow me to see all my contacts sorted by the date they became a contact or by the date they last sent me and email or the date that I last sent them an email or how many emails we've sent to one another cumulatively. These views would make it easy to trim the massive contact list into something more manageable.
* Mailing list management - I know this is a tough one. GMAIL has done a fantastic job keeping itself from being used for massive amounts of spamming. Unfortunately, my friend who is in charge of the town's childrens' sports teams cannot easily do a bulk mailing to all of the parents involved. Sending a message out to 400 parents is tedious or impossible with Gmail. One must seek out a third party application in order to do this.
That's my list for the moment. Great discussion, everyone!
I LOVE MY GMAIL! Woooo!!!! Hehe!
I would like to have two other things... the ability to save a html signature (now only text) and possibly to mark an email with different simbols, not only stars!
that's what labels are for! you label something Important, then when you click on the label Important, all the Important emails come up.
seriously, don't fight the labels.
The others are very true. Also I would like to see (and I have already sent this suggestion to the GMail Team) is the ability to 'move' accounts. So for example I have mypersonalemail@gmail.com and I move to myname@mycompany.com (using Google Apps of course) or just another regular GMail account, I could move all my contacts and emails to the new account. I've recently switched to my company's Google Apps GMail account and what I'm doing is forwarding my emails to my personal GMail account and set up a 'send as' for my company's email in my personal account.
Just waiting for change. But I'm really excited!
Otherwise, I'm a loyal GMail fan!
I'd like a way to delete all mail marked "Spam", without having to look at it.
Every day, I switch to the "Spam" folder, to delete all mail in it manually.
During this process, I usually see a Spam subject header that says, "Do you want a bigger penis?"
Now, coming across this message once in a while is Ok.
But I'm exposed to it for a few seconds every day, which is a significant portion of my life.
I am afraid that daily repeated exposure to this message will harm me psychologically.
In fact, I might already have developed feelings of inadequacy, due to this subliminal toxin, and not even know it.
Sometimes a fellow tells you: "This night I'll send you the last version of the customers list!" and, of course, when you look at your mailbox at night you will see an email like this:
Subject: Here it is!
Body:
Attachment: adressesadded.doc
When, two months later, you want to find this file, it's almost impossible. You'll search "customer", "list", "contacts", etc. with no result.
Another example would be:
Subject: Look at this!
Body: It's great! [link to youtube]
I often receive these kind of poorly-filled emails, and to prevent that problem I must do a reply to myself adding "customer list doc contacts addresses", or "video dancing bears" to the body. I would like to be able to add some tags to the email for further searching instead of have to replying it.
1. Facility for "Web 2.0"-style tagging of messages/threads with optional sidebar tag cloud.
2. Advanced, highly customisable, menu-driven message search and selection options that would allow me, for example, to search for (and automatically select) all messages that meet **any combination** of a wide range of criteria, including:
- messages with specific labels/tags (or, indeed, unlabelled)
- messages containing (or not containing) specific keywords
- messages sent/received within a specified date range
- messages sent (or not sent) to/from specific people/organisations
3. Integration with Google Reader (as other comments have mentioned).
Also, the POP downloading seems to be rather slow. Again, when downloading 200 messages at a time, I'd really like to be able to download them much faster. Normal messages without attachments take me roughly 3 minutes to download.
Google has created Gmail apps for some mobile phones.
I am running the GMail application written for Blackberry and it is quite wonderful on my Blackberry 8100/Pearl.
Really, really good stuff.
You should check Flickr's uploader, nifty, simple. No need to create a full screen view like flickr, but multiple uploads make sense.
the facility to turn on/off the thread view shud be there
some times i wanted to delete some of the unwanted mails in the thread which we cant do now in Gmail
