eGrupos is also a spinoff of the legendary eListas.net, a YahooGroups-like service I was using from the days one needed Trumpet to connect to the net with Windows. About a year ago eListas claimed it had over 20 million users, although eListas is not really a social network site.
I don't think I need to reiterate that Alexa is woefully inaccurate. But yes, any site with a pulse should at least appear in the top 100,000.
I'll check out eGrupos/eListas.
PHPFox has some horrible, horrible code underneath it. Pieced together by at least 4 different coders with no cohesivenes or scalablity, and almost as bad as Alstrasoft.
I look forward to hearing more about this. I know Pete's got reliable sources. But this one will be quite a surprise if it turns out to be true
Yes, PHPFox is poor - we've seen sites built on it before and don't recommend it for anything serious. The source has been correct everytime so far, so I've no reason to doubt it.
I did a comparison on alexa to the others Pete mentioned above and this minum2 site is spanking elhood, migente, and the likes on page views and rank plus i signed up and they have so many features that these other sites don't even come close to.
A few comments, firstly I think that anyone that actually uses the site will find that the PHPFox has been modded so much that its actually very user friendly (hey guys its easy to take one look, scream CMS and run).
Secondly I think Pete was a bit remiss in not talking about some of the cool things on this site. For instance Mimun2.com is the first community site (that I know of) that has partnered with a social gaming site (I.E. Habbo/Second Life) Vzones.com.
There are other features such as the downloadable messenger client but again, you'd have to actually use the site a bit first.
A quick comment about the members, you can basically use the entire site right now without joining, and we aren't pushing people to join until we're out of alpha or gamma or omega or whatever. But if you look at the alexa rank (with the obvious 'Alexa is evil and screwed up' caveat) you'll see the site is legit.
I understand there are a huge amount of community sites out there and you can't spend hours on each one, but if someone is going to leave a harsh comment wouldn't it be fair to spend 10 minutes on the site first?
Pete, thanks for the coverage and tell your snitch to at least let us know in advance next time!
Disclosure, I work for Mimun2.com
So how much did they get for it ??
mwaaaaaahaha. Honestly I can't say but why do you care?
What, like $99999.99? ;)
