Kristen, to answer your last question, it depends on the particular user of overlay.TV. At one end of the spectrum you have content owners looking to provide a direct measurable response to their advertisers. They could be looking to make their content more interactive or providing a more measurable return for their product placement dollars. At the other end of the spectrum, you have regular users that have uploaded or have knowledge of a video, maybe through their Facebook profile. They may use overlay.TV to place fun commentary about their friends and maybe a link to a product also. We have a large affiliate network from which products can be overlaid and this is expanding daily.

The beauty of Overlay.TV is that it is non-prescriptive. The user decides what’s relevant to overlay and how best to place that overlay in the video. They then monitor if their assumptions have been correct and can go and modify the overlay accordingly. By putting the user in control, the overlaid content, be it advertising, links or commentary, is relevant to the video and hence more likely to be clicked through especially when you consider the author is also the influencer and shares the overlay with his/her peer group.

Clikthrough, a Silicon Valley startup in interactive media, is another competitor whose technology makes videos interactive by enabling consumers to “Clik”, interact with and explore all available content in a video. Clikthrough’s video interaction is based on consumer interest in people, products and places in the video and we offer a consumer friendly and more compelling (exciting) interactive video experience.

Phonogenic, a label of Sony BMG, has partnered with Clikthrough, to give fans a way to interact with music videos. The Script, whose debut album reached #1 in UK and Ireland, is the first band to introduce an interactive music video with the new Clikthrough technology. With The Scripts new video “Breakeven” their fans can “Clik”, interact with and explore products, people, and places in the video within a leading edge theater experience. The Script’s video, Breakeven, is now available to view online at: http://www.clikthrough.com.
