This has to be the stupidest news item to fly around to blogosphere this year.

So one person made only 5 grand off YouTube (man, would I like 5 grand for posting videos on the Internet) Honestly, I wasn't aware YouTube was even paying anyone yet.

Now if he flopped on Revver, that would be far more interesting...that said, as someone who lives on a a rather small income, I find it hard to think 5 grand in three months is chump change.

Furthermore, his anger is completely misdirected. He should be mad a Viacom, not YouTube.

Re: 2007/12/31/sorry-scoble-but-size-does-matter/

I think Perez was over reacting. He's acting like 1.5 mil to YouTube is a lot of traffic. Their business doesn't live and die with a Perez Hilton video. His video where garbage. He was pretty turning on the camera and talking about nothing. Totally un-interesting stuff. So no one will miss his videos on YouTube at all.

Re: 2007/12/31/sorry-scoble-but-size-does-matter/

I had a similar reaction as Mark: it felt like there was a confusion of two concepts. Good content is key for getting good traffic, but it is not synonymous with lucrative traffic.

Re: 2007/12/31/sorry-scoble-but-size-does-matter/

Scoble is by far the most OVERRATED person on the net.

He would be nobody had it not been for Microsoft.

Re: 2007/12/31/sorry-scoble-but-size-does-matter/

LOOL!

Re: 2007/12/31/sorry-scoble-but-size-does-matter/

when you say "Does it matter of Make Magazine or Loren Feldman talk about Perez Hilton’s latest"

I read "Does it matter if Make Magazine or Loren Feldman talk about Perez Hilton’s latest"

Am I reading what you meant, or does that sentence somehow make sense the way it's actually written?

Re: 2007/12/31/sorry-scoble-but-size-does-matter/

Mark,

You're right but I think Scoble has building a personal brand confused with building ad revenue. You have to remember, blogging has always been about "the conversation" and personal profile for Scoble, which is why he's so prolific and often outrageous - attributes that have helped him build a large audience (along with a nice boost from Microsoft).

He's never had to worry about advertising or pursuing advertising so numbers have probably been less of a priority, although every blogger is obsessed with their traffic.

Mark
