    At least they bothered to mention Firefox. As soon as Chrome becomes a bit more stable and available for other platforms like Mac OS X and Firefox, I'm sure they'll drop mentioining Firefox.

    Google can be as sneaky as they want; I loves me some Chrome.

    Now when I attempt to use the address bar as a google search box in other browsers and it doesn't work, I get all irritated.

    I'm not sure why you consider that "sneaky". We get Gmail for free, so at the very least we should expect them to advertise other products.

    What's sneaky about it? They've long encouraged IE6 users to upgrade to IE7. Now that there's a demonstrable speed increase in moving from IE7 to Firefox or Chrome, they encourage users to switch. If Gmail is slow because of the browser, users blame Google, not Microsoft.

    They could start by releasing a version for Linux. Some of us actually want to give Chrome a try, but can't.

    But this doesn't surprise me at all. I only wonder why they bother with Firefox (I guess brand recognition). Either way, it looks like they're simply out to get MSFT....

    I'm most interested in how Google handles their relationship with Mozilla.
    Without revenue from Google, Mozilla doesn't have a whole lot of money
    coming in -- though it does have a lot of people still writing extensions, themes,
    and so forth for it.

    I personally would be careful how much time I spend developing for Firefox,
    Flock, etc.

    Yah, sneaky... but I love Chrome. I wish they would hurry and release a Mac version so taht I can use it at home.

    Funny how we are so forgiving when Google does things that, if it were Microsoft, would make us all scream.

    I don't quite consider that sneaky. Gmail (and most other JavaScript'ed sites/apps) IS faster in Chrome.

    While on GF's father's machine I saw the "make gmail faster" notice. I was using FF 2 though, not IE. Additionally, larger graphical push was made for Firefox 3 and Chrome, but in small text below the two was a blurb and link to IE 8 beta 2. Some comments from screenshot site linked to in post also seem to imply experience has varied. I agree though that it seems a bit fishy the "make experience faster" is only being shown in gmail, rather than maps, or docs.

    Why shouldn't a business leverage on its existing web property to promote new ones? So long as the ad is telling the truth ("faster"), it's good for the users as well.

    Google Gears is bundled in the Chrome install, which will make GMail faster and more responsive.

    So its pretty justified really.

    am I the only one here who has seen Chrome ads in Chrome gmail itself.
    I thought it would be news that Google can not detect its own browser and still
    keeps pushing the ad (wasting their inventory and dollars if i click the ad)
    That's a great example that google also wastes money.

    I have tried Chrome. They are going to have to try harder than this to get more users...
