Guy and I definitely talk and are connected. Cheers.

Re: 7 Great Reality Checks From Guy Kawasaki

I think that's great advice, and can be generalized... A lot of folks looking to start up a business are paranoid about talking about their ideas. The truth (and the cliche) is that ideas are 2 a penny - it is how you execute on them that matters.

And the more people you talk to, the easier it is to refine the idea, and find the right mix of people to make it happen.

Re: 7 Great Reality Checks From Guy Kawasaki

To answer your question, my reality check would be to Have Enthusiasm. If you're not enthusiastic about your start-up who's going to be?

Re: 7 Great Reality Checks From Guy Kawasaki

I love seeing people who I know in the comments. (And meeting people in person after connecting with them through the comments.)

Thanks for complimenting me & Guy. You're obviously on Twitter. You might want to tweet a thanks over to him directly. It's an easy way to build up a connection.

See you at the next event.

Re: 7 Great Reality Checks From Guy Kawasaki

It's a good book. Mostly, when people compile their best articles, the book they put together feels lazy. In Guy's case, he really put work into compiling, editing and drawing bigger meaning from the pieces he put together in Reality Check.

Re: 7 Great Reality Checks From Guy Kawasaki

Thanks Tyler. I'm terrible at catching typos like that in my writing. In two hours, I'm going to take one of my readers out to lunch because she helped me find and fix some errors. It's always frank, sensible and mixed with a bit of humor. I've been following him for over a decade and he just keeps getting more interesting. The guy has energy and takes risks and I admire those attributes immensely. I hope more startups and entrepreneurs heed his advice - those are the kinds of minds that make fantastic clients for us.

And, as a virtual company 10 years strong, we've definitely got #5 covered. Interesting concept for more traditional companies to follow.

Thanks Andrew and Guy - great stuff.

Christine Perkett
President & Founder, PerkettPR
http://www.twitter.com/missusP
http://www.twitter.com/Perk...

Re: 7 Great Reality Checks From Guy Kawasaki

I think that's exactly right. A successful technology business is exactly that - a technology business. If you don't have both aspects covered by people with skin in the game, it is going to be that much harder; and that much riskier.

That's not to say that you *can't* get funded without having built something already, but it is going to be an awful lot harder, and you'll give up an awful lot more for the money.

Re: 7 Great Reality Checks From Guy Kawasaki

I love these and will definitely but the book.

Re: 7 Great Reality Checks From Guy Kawasaki

Freelance work, you can hire a team to do it for you (elance, getafreelance, rentacoder) there are lots of websites.

Re: 7 Great Reality Checks From Guy Kawasaki

Was just going to leave a compliment on the well done post ... nice one Andrew..

Re: 7 Great Reality Checks From Guy Kawasaki

reality check #8: learn how to quote.
popurls is dozens of topic on _one_page, alltop the opposite. only business and tech is plain wrong.

Re: 7 Great Reality Checks From Guy Kawasaki

Great info that I needed to hear as we have been working our our launch...

Re: 7 Great Reality Checks From Guy Kawasaki

Always good to go back over the checklist.

Feel free to comment about the Holidays at our virtual Holiday Party!

http://cellecast.com/christmas

Re: 7 Great Reality Checks From Guy Kawasaki

Very nice recap ;)

Although for rule #6, how can you build a product / prototype without hiring a developer?
I guess you need to have a tech guy in your team ;)
