The Alt+t --> TinyURL is an excellent feature by itself. My only problem with the app is that the guys developing it are too busy right now to update it.

Try 8hands. It's a desktop tool for profile aggregation, and it allows you to update your twitter and keep track on all your friends.

Why is it really so hard to make a decent Windows desktop app for Twitter?
By far my current favorite is TeleTwitter:
