I must say this is impressive.

However HuddleChat already says "The page you requested is invalid." when I try to login and it's not even morning in the US yet.

Why would you take pride in not learning a powerful, mature language like python?

if google owns your users, content and code, what do you own?

I'm amazed at how well it integrates with Django. The datastore model API seems a little awkward, though; Django has pretty much weaned me off SQL so I'd rather not spend too much time with GQL.

For those who are interested, I just wrote a short tutorial on how to get Django up and running on the App Engine:

any idea when the rest of us will be able to get our hands on this. I've already done some Django coding and would really like to try out App Engine

you can also run code developed with a high level framework like web2py on the appengine.
    Here is an example

The Datastore *is* awkward, especially for those well-versed in relational databases (or object-oriented relational DB mappers).

For instance, it's not obvious how to do a simple one-to-many JOIN. After figuring out how to do this myself, I put up a tutorial on my blog:

It's unfortunate that the GAE docs don't give more intensive examples demonstrating how to do common things in the Datastore that you do currently in SQL.

I've really enjoyed working with GAE now for a day or two. I didn't know anything about Python before really but it's got me up to speed very quickly to the point where I could probably build most web apps at a similar speed to what I normally develop in (PHP or .NET). I have found a few annoying issues though that I've posted over at http://ok-cool.com/posts/read/195-google-app-en... such as not being able to store large files :(

I know this post is really old, but it was never absolutely necessary for your users to have Google Accounts. The User module is like this bonus feature about it. You can design your own if you want.

Google now offers the Java language too! Wondering when PHP will be made available...
