Mashable - The Social Media Guide: 2008/06/26/children-of-web-20/

I am 28 years old and a relatively new web 2.0 and social media convert. I can't imagine living without applications like Facebook, Twitter and Flickr. It makes me wonder about the generations that will grow up in a Web 2.0 or 7.0 world. There will certainly be fundamental cultural changes, some of which we have already witnessed. Just look at the results Obama has had in attracting the youth vote and raising millions of dollars through social media. Traditional advertising and media will also have to change to address a generation that spends more time in front of a computer than a TV, radio or news stand. By 2011 emarketer projects that online ad dollars will surpass all other mediums other than direct mail.

I'm impressed with Scoble and his kid, I'm impressed with how US Politics has embraced technology and I'm saddened how different it is in the UK.

I worry greatly about the U.K. as well not only that the people are be ubjected to more and more intrusion not just by the House of Lords level of government but also right down to the Council level as well. In some case it is a prime example of the Nanny State gone mad.

The other big concern is that what is happening over there - much like the original English invasion that brought us the Beatles - is being shipped over here. It is like the U.K. has become a testing ground of how much bullshit people are capable of taking in ways of government and police intrusions into their lives.

    Hey, Steven!
This post is very unusual for Mash :) It impressed me greatly cause it is even a bit sentimental.
Being myself a child of web 2.0 just a few years ago I should say that we live this live as it is and "world that is changing faster than ever before" is okay for us :)
Thanks for inspiration and that you -SM mavens- think about us ;)

shhhh .. don't tell anyone but it's a part of my master plan of Crankiness - lull them into a sense of warm and mushy and then - BAM - throw the cranky at them :)

Seriously - glad you like the post.

yes and it is the rest of the world that everyone needs to be concerned about as well not just our little corners.

Hey Andrei I don't forget the rest of the world, I simply can't really comment on things happening in a country I don't live in.
