Mashable - The Social Media Guide: 2008/10/04/100-sites-for-green-living/

Wow where's is GreenLivingIdeas.com on this list? Major omission.
  • Adam P · 1 year ago
You know this really pisses me off. How much talent is going into solving these "small" small issues when we just need a tiny bit of leverage to convince Toyaota to put a kite on the ships that deliver their cars:

Grow up and look away from Tech Cool towards existing industry that is polluting and getting away with it!!

My squidoo 'lens' is a new site devoted to renewable energy sources, with many links and a lot of information for those interested in saving our planet. You can find it by going to http://squidoo.com/solarpower5 I update this site every few days and I hope that everyone finds it to be informative.

Great list, I'll spend the coming week digging through the list :)
  • Max Gladwell · 1 year ago
Pretty extensive list. There are a few that should have been excluded. Ecocho and Ripple are pretty weak. Seems like Kiva was the biggest omission under charitable giving. We'd also recommend looking at http://www.ecoperks.com, a green rewards program.
  • Philip · 1 year ago
Minor clarification, EcoMonkey is a green rewards programme - a bit like ecoperks, but with a UK focus initially ... thanks
  • Starre · 1 year ago
Thanks for including Greenopia on this list! In addition to your green business reviews of salons, restaurants, green building resources, dry cleaners and more, we are expanding our ratings and listings from NYC, LA and SF (with over 3000 listings among them), to 50 more cities across the United States. Check us out and nominate your fave local green biz for inclusion! :)
  • Jake Basco · 1 year ago
Great list of site .. I will go through them one by one.
  • Mark · 1 year ago
Above all we must not forget MoreEco.com. The team search the Internet for the best organic, Eco and natural retailers and list them in one place. What's even better is that if you shop with these shops via the site you will up to 9 moreeco points per pound spent. As a bonus for every 10 points you earned will offset 1kg of co2 for free.

Are aim is to reward consumers who shop Eco and to reward retailers to sell eco.
  • Jeff Johnson · 1 year ago
    Good List....

Also see http://www.ctngreen.com - has wellness, ecologic, Zen, A magazine and news area , videos and art.

( not sure if this comment post link works -- www.ctngreen.com/mag )

Excellent article, and thanks for the mention!
  • Lisa · 1 year ago
Thank you for including MissionFish on this great list! We're working really hard to find new ways for you to support your favorite cause through eBay and are signing up new nonprofits to the program everyday. Check out our site to find out how you can buy, sell, or donate to help the cause that means the most to you.
  • Mark · 1 year ago
This is a great list. One site which should be mentioned is MoreEco. MoreEco is a shopping reward site. We search the internet for the best organic, green, environmental, and natural online retailers and negotiate with them a reward level which can be passed on to the moreeco registered users.

Once you have chosen your shop click through and then you are then on the retailer’s own site and will be dealing directly with them from that point.

For every pound you spend at one of MoreEco shops you can earn up to 9 points. As a bonus for every 10 points you earn MoreEco will offset 1kg of C02 for FREE.
  • Mark · 1 year ago
The aim of the blog is to provide readers and shoppers with the latest eco, organic, green products. We search in the internet for gadgets, home accessoties and fashion items.

The team at Eco Trend Spotter are looking for people who love searching the internet and the world for the latest eco gadget, green home idea, or ethical fashion item.

If you are on of these people then we woud love to hear from you. Please e-mail your exciting finds to ideas@ecotrendspotter.com and we will have a look. If the team thinks you have found an Eco Trend Spotter item we will review it and publish it on our blog. For each Eco item which is published we will add 250 MoreEco points to your MoreEco members account.

Some interesting new sites here - thanks!

But if you're going to include fundraising and charitable sites, you should include sites like http://www.modestneeds.org/ or http://www.fundraisingip.com/fundraising/ .

Some of the charitable and fundraising sites you do mention in this list take up to 10% of the donations they collect for a group. Not very charitable in my view.
  • Peter · 1 year ago
Interesting list. I am surprised that I didn't see http://www.xtracycle.com/ on it. their cargo bike attachments can really improve the everyday usefulness of a bike.
  • Yonatan · 1 year ago
thanks for adding Traxtuff to the list.
I'm amused, I was going to add a suggestion to include http://www.xtracycle.com/ on the list since their bicycle allow me to hardly never use a car, and I see peter (above) has beat me to it. way to go!
so, with two supporters you should definitely add them. (PS: I think the term "SUB"/sports utility bicycle was coined by xtracycle people, but it's not registered in anyway as far as I can tell and other companies also build frames inspired by them).

A massive list - well done, over at Ethical Junction, http://www.ethical-junction.org, we've got a lot of resources for living, blogging, shopping and advertising ethically. Its been around the internet since 1999! Some of our members are listed here, which is great. So keep up the good work

This is a great list! It's good to see these resources being compiled. You might consider adding www.ecomii.com to the list. It's a great site focused on distilling environmental research into real-life suggestions for how and why small changes in daily habits can both help the environment and save money. It's a pretty comprehensive resource for anyone who wants to learn the facts and then find some suggestions for how to turn that knowledge into action. Again, though, It's great that y'all are highlighting these resources so people can educate themselves. In my opinion, that's what it's all about!

    Pedini is turning Greener!

Pedini, already an environmentally friendly company, is now turning a deeper and a stronger shade of green.

For years, Pedini has been producing their box construction as a completely green product. It is formaldehyde free, made of 100% recycled wood and all the wood veneer used comes exclusively from sustainable sources.

Now the people at Pedini have gone one step further and upgraded their box construction.

The Marine Grade (water-proof) Ecological Panel that Pedini is now using, is made from 100% post-consumption wooden material, is Forest Stewardship Council certified (FSC) and has the absolute lowest formaldehyde emissions in the world.

This Marine Grade Ecological Panel represents a revolutionary material that provides a perfect synthesis between safeguarding the environment and concern for the health of the consumer.

Another important factor in Pedini’s on-going efforts to protect the environment is the fact that they are truly an eco-friendly brand. Unlike other companies that create one or two “politically-correct” green products, in a factory that also manufactures non-green items, Pedini exclusively produces green products and adheres entirely to environmentally friendly practices in their production facilities.

For more information, go to http://www.pediniusa.com/press-release-03.htm

We do not farm or grow our plants in a nursery. All of our plants are carefully gathered from the woodlands where they have been planted by mother nature. One cannot get a more natural or organic product completely free from fertilizers and pesticides.
We do offer a handful of products that are "escapees" from an old farmstead (roses in particular) and we offer a small variety of heirloom seeds and other products. Everything that does not come directly from the forest is clearly marked as such.
Our native plants generally require less water and special care than domesticated nursery or farm grown plants. These unique and naturally hardy woodland plants help reduce air pollution, provide shelter and food for wildlife and many have useful human food and medicinal properties as well as beauty and scenic value.
