Mashable - The Social Media Guide: 2007/01/28/mashable-relaunches/

  • Francis · 2 years ago
Let me be the 1st one to congrats u on the "new look" ................

There's something about you and the colour "pink" isnt it ? Hehehe :P

Just fine the fonts used in the dates, your name, and about Mashable column kinda small.

Maybe u could do something about the dates like making it larger fonts and bold.

Do have some sites coming up this year and will sound you in on it as they progress.

All the best in 2007 :)

    francis,

Are you saying this design is conflicted about its sexuality? I'll pass that message on to the designer. ;)
  • Timo Heuer · 2 years ago
It's a nice design. Looks much better than it's predecessor!
  • carlo · 2 years ago
Seems like a big waste of space on the left side, odd place to put that info since we read left to right.
  • philippe · 2 years ago
Very nice design, very clearly, very ventilated.
  • qureyoon · 2 years ago
the navigational links at the top right are a bit of UNNOTICED, like the old one better

and for some who viewed this on 1024 that navigational links are a bit off ;)

    overall is nice ^^

  • Paul Montgomery · 2 years ago
Is it a boy or is it a girl?
  • Pete Cashmore · 2 years ago
    Hehe. Mashable: Effeminate 2.0.
  • Eric Willis · 2 years ago
This is an improvement. Nice Work!
  • Mohamed El-Kamony · 2 years ago
Congrats Pete on the new design and a job well-done. I like how you showed your brand colors, Pink & Purple, in a nice way throughout the design. The layout is also more organized now and easier on the eyes.

Like another reader mentioned, I'd only recommend relocating the social networks tab bar to the middle or at least a little bit to the left, cause I feel it is too far away like this.

For example, imagine moving the Mashable brand a little bit to the top left and then locating the tab bar in the middle, so that the users click on them and the categories load underneath them right away. I think it would be better in terms of browsing experience, and also in terms of design, cause it won't be far from what users have been adjusted to when browsing the site.
It is still Mashable, just new & improved.

I hope my words find you good Pete, and best of luck to you and Mashable in 2007.

    Sincerely,
    Mohamed El-Kamony

it's interesting, makes my monitor appear taller.
  • Klaus · 2 years ago
    no rss feed button ?
  • Pete Cashmore · 2 years ago
    Klaus,

You can use the Feedburner chicklet. Or do you want a separate RSS button too?
  • Web 2.0 Skeptic · 2 years ago
Wow. A Web 2.0 design just in time for the death of Web 2.0!

All jokes aside the navigation at the top breaks in Opera.
  • Guk · 2 years ago
Awesome redesign. But remove mashcodes :). It destroys the point of mashable.
  • paul king · 2 years ago
It's definately more uni-sex. A shim. Like a baby, hopefully in a number of years it'll mature into real colors, lol.

It did seem to lose some of its seriousness (like anything 2.0 should be taken seriusly?!) but over all, looks good.

Am I going blind or did the fonts get smaller? And what happened to the puzzle piece? I kindof liked that logo... "piecing it all together" - that's what I always thought.
  • paul king · 2 years ago
Oh, I know why it looks less serious and it's not just the color. The old logo had a "!" at the end... like there was a point to what your were writing, or there was some excitement about it, or like the point meant "dammit"... mashabledammit. The new one just kindof tells the name. whoopteedo. lol
  • Pete Cashmore · 2 years ago
    Paul,

Hehe. Funny how you say the lack of an exclamation mark makes it *less* serious. ;)
  • Pete Cashmore · 2 years ago
    Web 2.0 Skeptic,

Ah, I'll go test in Opera. Got to appease the 0.0003% of people who use it. ;)

(Just kidding - I use it from time to time)
  • Francis · 2 years ago
Well Paul was asking if it's a boy or girl?
  • chickerino · 2 years ago
    Really nice. Very 2.0 ;)
  • kumz · 2 years ago
Your sites new look is superb - cool. I check this site for the updates daily..... you are doing good job - keep it up :)
  • Matthew Ogston · 2 years ago
Congrats on the new design, a big improvement, but have a few issues with navigational clarity. On the main homepage, underneath each blog posting there is a hyperlinked button that says 'Read More' - the position and design is not immediately clear that it refers to the blog post above.

I can no longer 'right-click' on your masthead logo (in order to open in a new tab) in FireFox 2 (PC).

The blue hyperlink colour in the 'about mashable' box is too difficult to read.

    Other than that, great!
  • Laurent · 2 years ago
    Hi Pete,
I'm really impressed by the design, clear and smooth.

    Good Job
  • Steven Bao · 2 years ago
Pete, love the new design, looks nice and fresh.
  • Shuki Haiminis · 2 years ago
    Looks great Pete!
  • Scott · 2 years ago
Could we get a little more (as in some) contrast between the text color and hyperlink colors? Please?
  • Carlo · 2 years ago
I'm with you on the text color and hyperlink color.
  • Mike D. · 2 years ago
Very well done. I like it!!! B-Vel is money.
  • Pete Cashmore · 2 years ago
    Mike D,

Yeah, B-Vel is God. Except that God took seven days...B-Vel is much quicker. ;)
  • cml · 2 years ago
the old one was easier and better
  • Mike D. · 2 years ago
    cml: You are on crack.
  • pramit · 2 years ago
Looks cleaner and better. Keep up the good work.
  • Laurent · 2 years ago
I would just make the tabs in the top right-hand corner ("All, MySpace ...") more visible.

Other than that, it's airier and really nice to navigate. Keep up the good stuff :-)
