I started a online restaurant directory 9 years ago with online ordering capabilities..

After years and years of misfortune I finally gave up on it.

My biggest hurdles were trying to get the restaurant owners to comply, and finding dependable developers

I wish all these companies all the best of luck

    Zooped,
I read your comments and would like to know what you meant by restaurant owners not complying. I am starting a new online ordering site in about a month and appreciate any insight, etc...

It would be almost impossible to keep a single city updated with new restaurant openings, let alone a whole country. Don't see how this can be kept uptodate, unless you have an army of foodie bloggers constantly updating the database.

You missed foodler.com! The best I've used so far.

At GrubHub.com we have one person who is totally dedicated to finding new restaurants, updating menus, and turning off the closed restaurants. Its not as tough as you would think because we constantly scan the Internet for restaurants and cross-check this data with our database. We call any mismatches to confirm the real information.

You also missed LiveOnTheGo.com, currently serving southern California.

I use totaltakeout.com. I think they're not necessarily geared to consumer, but they can do some large catering orders. I know my friend used them for a huge picnic he had, and for a 4th of July party. They coordinate meals in all 50 states. They're pretty impressive as far as I'm concerned. They're motto is every order, every time, everywhere. So all you do is just give them a call if you don't see a restaurant on their website. They'll still get the job done, and sometimes they make exceptions for larger orders for some of the exquisite caterers.

They do pharma reps, not regular consumers. I know, I HAVE to use them and they get the orders wrong or late.

I've tried most of them. Loved campusfood in college - but moved on to SeamlessWeb. Best i've found (in NYC at least). But that blurb is wrong - they are all over the US...when i travel for buisness i use them too.

All the above mentioned companies are great depending on where in the U.S. you are.

I'm with Lone Star Meals and as the name implies we cover Texas. I believe we have more options for Food Delivery and take out in Texas than anyone else. Currently more than 350+ options covering Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio and smaller Texas cities, with plans to have more than 600 by end of 2008.

If your in Texas take a look and let us know what you think. In other states and cities I'd certainly take a look at all the others mentioned.
