It's intriguing to me how much attention Zoodango's getting for launching a site that makes ridiculous claims like "the first networking site to drive face-to-face meetings and create online connections based on real world relationships." Huh? We at http://biznik.com, a much quieter Seattle startup, have been doing that for more than a year, and we sure ain't the first. If you want to see a social network for indie business networking that actually does what it claims to do, check us out.

Yes, we're mostly a Seattle network at present, so we're in the middle of a big Ruby on Rails redevelopment with a 2.0 launch planned for February, but rather than rave about what we're going to do to the press, like Zoodango does, I'd rather talk about what we've already done: built a community of more than a thousand business people in Seattle though linking a solid social network with face-to-face events. There's nothing like face-to-face to build trust, the essential ingredient of every business relationship. It's a great idea, one we've been developing for quite a while now, and I welcome Zoodango's entry into this field - they've got a knack for getting attention that'll make the market bigger for all of us.

Starbucks is using Jobster-A social networking site, it would be interesting to see if they have had any success with it?

I met someone over the weekend who knew one of the founders. I'm not sure if they've inked a partnership with Starbucks, but they said they have some major announcements that will give them national press in the first quarter of 2007. This should be interesting to watch. I know Starbucks is very interested in getting involved with social networks. I saw an article about it with Gather.com in Businessweek.

Well, about 50 a day submitted to Mashable through the submit form. Even more through normal email (I currently have 500 unread mails, for instance), although a good proportion of those are updates to existing networks. But does someone installing a script on their server count as a new social network? I don't think so. If you discount all the low quality stuff and scripts, there are probably at least 50-100 "good" social sites launched every week.

How many social network sites like this would u say are launching currently? Hundreds?
