Sometimes it's not hiding of tweets that I want... just a visual cue when a certian tweet contains something I know I'm interested (my company name, my username in an @reply, CSS, etc.). That way, I see my whole stream, but I can QUICKLY scan to use profile images or highlighted tweets (from terms) as my visual cue to stop and read that one.
