I've got to vouch for TweetDeck, it's a great app! Twitter just isn't the same without it, you can easily track all replies, DM's, search results and pretty much anything else you want. The interface is clean and easy to use as well, I highly suggest it.

    you missed crowdstatus :p
  • Morty · 1 year ago
She skipped crowdstatus probably because she was focusing on the good ones.

    Juan -

Thanks for the mention for JustSignal. We are working hard to move the site out of "pre-release" beta and launch new services - which will include real time brand monitoring.

Thanks again for the mention - and if you need any more information about what we are up to let me know.

    Hey Jun,

I really like the site you made, futuredelivery.tv! Good job on this post and the fun videos!

@Darren: there are over two hundreds sites and services that are built around Twitter, so Jun couldn't cover all of them, but Morty is a bit harsh :)

@Brian: if you want to thank a person, you should at least spell his/her name right :)

    I look forward to more!

I moved to a wilderness compound in Montana to write my manifesto. Problem solved.

This was exactly the post I need to read at exactly the right moment. I was always wondering how @guykawasaki did it...I assumed he hired a staff to take care of it for him. Thanks for the education.
  • Brian · 11 months ago
I think he said (in one of his posts about twitter somewhere) that he only reads @replies and DM. Not sure if this is absolute or not, but I'm guessing that even at that filter level there's still a lot of noise to contend with.

@Nicola - oh wow, I know a lot of people who use Qwitter. Guess they won't be able to protect themselves from those people who massively friend and then defriend

@Brian - My basketball coach in high school called me Juan actually. For some reason he thought that was the "right" pronunciation. Let me know when it's in full release

@Ted - My goal is to start taking little mini vacations starting July 2009. I will document my progress on my blog

    @PixelPunk - Glad I could help!

    Jun-

Thanks for the mention of http://twalala.com! Just wanted to let everyone know that we're still in very early development. (We built the app in 48 hours for this years' Rails Rumble.) We're reaching toward the goal of a fully-featured web-based client and would love feedback from Mashable readers who've kicked the tires on twalala.

    Thanks again.

One thing I really like about Twalala is the "whitelisting" of certain phrases. Sometimes it's not hiding of tweets that I want... just a visual cue when a certian tweet contains something I know I'm interested (my company name, my username in an @reply, CSS, etc.). That way, I see my whole stream, but I can QUICKLY scan to use profile images or highlighted tweets (from terms) as my visual cue to stop and read that one. Of course, I like to read as many tweets as possible, but when catching up on 10+ pages of tweets, it's just not possible...

Tweetbeep and Google Alerts are indispensable. I like Tweetdeck a lot but it's so damn big...and the scrolling was never smooth for me. Loving my combination of Twitterific, Syrinx, and twitter.com for desktop and Tweetie for iPhone.

Jun, I am a fan of Tweetdeck. I have been having problems setting up the groups and isolating a column. Does anyone have any advice?

Peoplebrowsr is another awesome site that's coming out with a great way to channel the tweets you wanna get

Nice article! Very usefull, I'll keep it in mind from now on! I like your website too, FD career...

I can't imagine using twitter any other way than with TweetDeck. Ever since I switched over to it twitter has been a completely different experience.
  • Morgan Mandel · 11 months ago
I skim through the tweets and answer any that interest me. You can't network and get to know people if you mute them.
  • Alexis · 11 months ago
I don't follow that many people yet. My main use of twitter is to extend my radar.

Twitter is great to discover things you would never have known existed in the first place. But thanks for your post. It will sure come in handy soon enough
  • Rax · 11 months ago
Wow. This is really useful. I'm loving Twitlert - very useful indeed. Particularly the advanced settings...
  • Kathleen Buckley · 11 months ago
Wow, I didn't realize how offended people are to be de-friended. I'd better be a lot pickier about whom I follow!
  • Morgan Mandel · 11 months ago
I have over 500 followers, but they don't all tweet at once. I have no problem skimming through them. Filtering is fine, but then you can't relate as well socially with your followers, which means you'll miss some of the fun.
  • Mark Clayson · 10 months ago
That is a great article. I was unaware of some of the apps available. I downloaded Tweetdeck but have never gotten around to using it. Will do so now.
  • Gnuboss · 6 months ago
The only thing I really wish that I could do with TweetDeck is drag people between groups - the plus or group edit functions are a little clunky, but get the job done.

I agree though, you have to put filters in place or you'll go nuts.
