Isn't this a little late? Now that apps are pushed to the backroom like an after thought, why would people spend time developing more apps to be pushed into the corner?

Well, Facebook is clearly trying to encourage specific types of applications now, and on the website note that fbFund apps might become part of the "Great Apps" program - the way FB intends to still highlight apps. Whether or not this is the right direction is up for debate and the point of the post Don just made earlier today about FB and the iPhone App Store.

Will these Apps need to be designed and in operational mode before submitting for this grant ?

I think it's more like a business plan competition. You submit your idea, team, market opportunity, etc and then use the funds to actually build the app/business.

Reading the terms and conditions, an odd phrase jumped out in the middle of page 3:

    (2) Effective Use of the Android Platform (17%)

So let me get this straight. Facebook copied Google's Android developer challenge and didn't even bother to change the branding?

Yea, i was wondering the same thing.

    Oh damn...

"The Competition is void in, and not
open to residents outside the United States."
