    Pete,

What I find amazing about all the new start-ups being born everyday, is that hardly any of them really focus on the 50-100 million of us that own websites.

Every start up seems obsessed with the myspace crowd, who may out number website owners, buy they are very fickle when it comes to 'the next big thing' and don't seem to like paying for anything.

Sure they can give you the numbers, but try and get money out of them and you're only option is GoogleAds and hopefully getting a buy out from a media baron.

Website owners find they have to pay for domain names, hosting and a broad range of advertsing, yet are usually neglected when someone builds a nifty new service or product for the web.

    Just my observations.

Jeff, I know its been taking a while, but over at Crazy Egg, we are focused on Website owners, and we've been listening to them very closely. Stay tuned!

    Hiten,

    What you're doing sounds interesting.

The biggest problem I think most website owners experience is traffic.

Getting people to your site is the most important and often hardest thing to accomplish.

Even if you do get the traffic, wouldn't it be good to know what your potential customer's thought?

Definable problem, possible simple solution, large market (50 million+)

    I'ts my next project.

    Good luck with yours.

    Jeff

Hey cool - I was thinking about what would make a good health/exercise site last night.

They should link these products to groceries on Amazon Groceries and make referral revenue - http://www.amazon.com/gp/browse.html/103-579827...

This is the last thing the bulemia-generation needed - hopefully goog buys them & shuts them down in the spirit of "do no evil" - IMO, this kind of stuff is pure evil !!!

Wait till the drug companies start letting you self-diagnose on their sites & take a print-out to your doc. demanding a script.

Thanks for this note about The Daily Plate, but speaking as someone who has tried it (and various other similar websites) I think their database of food items is pretty limited. Try Calorie-Count.com instead....also free, also good logging and tracking tools, alos all good Web2.0 community things going on, but in comparisong a HUGE range of foods too....
  • Roland · 3 years ago
Hmm. Seems like The Daily Plate has hundreds of thousands more foods than calorie-count, and the search appears to work better too.

But I guess that's why they make chocolate AND vanilla!

Attn: David G .... The Daily Plate is not targeted towards a younger audience. Of course, if people use it they use it. We're targeting the middle aged folks who need to lose some weight for health reasons. In case you have not heard, obesity is turning into a major crisis in America. Not to mention, our tools can be used for gaining weight too. We have users on our site who are using the site to get their 5,000 calories a day in that they need (crazy ultramarathon folks!).

I agree eating disorders and the obsession with being thin is very bad for people...But it is equally bad to be unhealthily overweight, and requires tools for people to help deal with it.

There's some background on the source of the data on The Daily Source's food data here:

    http://www.diet-blog.com/archives/2006/07/24/di...

    http://calorielab.com/news/2006/07/24/more-cowb...

Apparently they just downloaded it from competing web sites, hoping that Web 2.0 user-powered proofreading will fix the any inaccuracies.

Hey, I just started working for a Public Relations company who was turned on to a new product called FBCx. It stands for Fat Binding Complexer and pronounced F-bex. I did some research and found it is an all-natural dietary fiber that is able to bind dietary fat. I was skeptical, as were some of the other people in the office (mostly women), until we started losing weight! A few people have lost over 30 pounds already and are raving about being able to fit into “favorite jeans” from 2 years ago. It’s really easy to keep up with too; you just take it with your 3 regular meals. If you want to do your own research or try it out for yourself www.fbcx.com has everything you need to know about it or you can ask the doctors who created it.

Google, "do no evil" ... gimme a break.

If you think this diet site is pure evil maybe you should take a moment to do some research on the US Senate.

    Drama queen.

it is useful when you are trying to become more fit and healthy to actually be able to see how much food (calories) you are eating. lots of people fool themselves into thinking they eat healthy but when you have it laid out in front of you it is harder to stay ignorant.

the daily plate is much better than other trackers i have seen because it actually has most of the foods i eat in it's database. try finding "health is wealth chicken free patties" on fitday.

for the record i am neither bulimic nor obsessed with my body. i am studying to be a registered dietician and my family background includes many diabetics.

p.s. there is alot to be said for being a positive presence in the world ;)

I think this website is great. I mean, doesn't it seem to you like the advantages outweigh the disadvantages hundredfold?
  • roona · 6 months ago
Sounds great, I am sure for many teenage girls desperate to lose some pounds. I just hope the site is health oriented and has some warnings on eating disorders on the minimum calorie intake. Teenage girls can calculate their desired calorie intake and then go even lower that the health limit to lose even more weight. Also some tips on healthy food would work great on such site.
