Mashable - The Social Media Guide: 2007/09/16/blogrush-2/

  • Brian · 2 years ago
I'm glad someone else shares this skepticism. The head guy over at blogrush is pretty talented at generating hype, but this in reality is just a glorified traffic exchange. Big deal :)

If he didn't have the contacts in the blogosphere that he does, no one would care or dare to install this thing.

What exactly is the business model? Skimming traffic off the top?
  • Andrew · 2 years ago
Brian: "The head guy over at BlogRush is pretty talented at generating hype." He certainly is: he somehow induced two Mashable posts about his pyramid-shaped widget.
  • mark · 2 years ago
    Yeah, that's nice.

It doesn't take a pro-blogger (or a rocket scientist) to realize how true points #5 and #7 are. New users would either rush to sign-up under popular bloggers or remove the referral ID altogether when signing up. And as with many other kinds of links (and posts) in the blogosphere, we really can't tell which are genuine and which aren't!

    John

Your service is nothing revolutionary, new or even original for that matter ...

I'm the original owner of BlogExplosion.com, the original traffic exchange for bloggers (which I ended up selling to LiveVideo.com some time ago)

Both BlogExplosion and Blogmad.net had text link exchanges (essentially what you do), where you can target by category etc.. But that was a couple of years ago.. You can talk up your technology to match content etc. but it's mostly just that - talk

RELEVANT CONTENT, TARGETED - Bottom line this has been done before with exactly the same functionality (except we had a much larger userbase than you do)...

Systems like these get abused by people that game the system (and they will), the clickthrough percentage is horrible and the actual amount of traffic you'll see as a result will be a trickle.

The only person that will benefit from this will be of course the people at the top (mostly the program owner), whereby you take all of the extra inventory generated by the users and either sell that inventory or plug your own programs/urls.

The end-users will ALWAYS get the short end of the stick in a system like this. It's been shown to be the case time after time, so I'm not saying anything controversial here.

Nothing personal, but I know what I'm talking about as I've been running traffic exchanges for 7 years and seen it all before. Again BlogRush is nothing new and certainly won't be killing your traffic counter as promised. I understand the differences between the two compared, but again blog traffic exchanges also had text swap features based on content category (but with tens of thousands of users)..

This program is two-three years late in coming out. You kinda missed the "blog rush" dude as blogging is now in decline..

It will take this program months to ramp up before it has enough users to make it worthwhile.

All you need to do is watch your referral traffic and clickthrough percentages over that time to come to the same conclusions that I'm telling you right now. Been there, done that and the only person you'll be helping is the people that own BlogRush...
  • vic berggren · 2 years ago
Pete, your skepticism might be on target. I noticed over 100 referrals to my blog from BlogRush prior to me signing up for the server.

I didn't think anything of it until I watched the demonstration on how BlogRush works. The way I understand it I should not have been receiving traffic until I signed up.
  • Thomas Crown · 2 years ago
The problem with blogrush is that if your blog does not get enough traffic then blogrush wont help you much. I think the tool needs some work yet.
  • Abhishek · 2 years ago
    Pete,

You are right, we will find out soon if this works or not.

Also what people haven't realized yet is that BlogRush will just display the post titles. Translating that into site visits isnt that easy.

I agreewith the comments, but for starting bloggers (like myself) all 'free' publicity and traffic is welcome.
Well ... All traffic is welcome :-).

I hope to at least get a few people from this service. And I hope the same for all those you join.

    Be well.

Technorati and FeedBurner did more for blogging than this thing ever will. Link exchange? Oh yeah, I heard about those in history class. If you want to be a pro blogger, you have to ensure the right people find your content. The key is finding readers who are interested in what you're writing and return for more. Not just some random surfer who happens to click on an exchanged link.
  • CountRob · 2 years ago
Oh and I forgot to mention this thing is super easy to trick. Just set Firefox to auto refresh and leave your computer on all day.
  • Danny Duncan · 2 years ago
Another way to trick the system it to signup your blog to an autosurf program. Heck sign it up to all the cheesy autosuf programs out there. That should get you a bunch of traffic. LOL

I've been scouting the net looking for blogrush reviews to get ideas to fill my squidoo len.

Must say that out of the tens of reviews I read so far, yours stand out as very insightful & special, especially with added comments from lonelyblogger and Danny Duncan ;)

I've link to this page on http://www.squidoo.com/blogrush on reviews that worth a mention. Cheers!
  • vic berggren · 2 years ago
Who else started getting a blgorush traffic before signing up? Doesn't that smell funny to anyone else?
  • Sam · 2 years ago
Those if you planning to do the auto refresh thing to game blogrush, a note of caution - if you use Google AdSense on your site, your AdSense account may get flagged for artificially inflating ad impressions.

Great post Pete. I signed up earlier today and am optimistic. I agree with your two-week timeframe to confirm whether or not the hype is justified. I hope so!!

I blogged about this today as I'm sceptical too. Still congratulations to John Reese for bringing it out before the sale of his new product. He will certainly benefit from it.
  • Danny Duncan · 2 years ago
Good point Catherine. Mr. Reese gets a ton of people to signup for his new FREE service then backends them with an offer for his NEW Traffic Secrets 2 product due out soon. Hmmm?

Let's see get thousands of people to signup who want to get traffic to their blogs and then sell them a $1000+ product on how to get more traffic.

I have to hand it to him. Brilliant idea. Some I'm sure will fall for it.
  • azzam · 2 years ago
I wonder if any one here has even bought 'traffic secrets' original version?

Do not under estimate John Reese, he was given the title Million Dollar Day man for nothing. Sure he's an entrepreneur who is there to make money, but seriously has anyone here even followed his stuff, watch his videos, been to the seminars?
If he fails to get you traffic for your site, generate revenue through the tactics offered then lodge a complaint that you have been ripped off!

In my years of Internet marketing I know all the sharks and scams. You maybe thinking that the biggest buzz on the internet currently is BlogRush, but it is only a slice of what income.com is going to be all about.

This guy is seriously smart. But do not be disillusioned that he is a new start-up looking to monetize using advertising on a widget. This guy is an Internet Marketeer and makes money by helping you make money. That has been his game since day one, and he does not go round hiding that fact.

It is very rare that he does not make something work and off this magnitude he will stake his reputation on it.
  • Jim Kukral · 2 years ago
    From my blog...

JOHN REESE MAY HAVE NOT CREATED SOMETHING TRULY ORIGINAL… BUT HE MARKETED IT AND POSITIONED IT BETTER!

This is going to sound crude, but here’s an example.

Two people could take a crap in a box and both try to sell it. But the guy who wraps it in the nicer package, the better marketer, is going to sell more boxes of crap.

Sorry dude who made Blogexplosion, and the other guys who are now feeling like they missed something. Guess what??

    You did.

John Reese is a brilliant marketer. He positioned it perfectly. He got the sneezers in early to push it hard, and their minions followed suit. It was brilliant, and it worked, and even if it doesn’t last long term, he’s now sitting on probably a hundred thousand email addresses he can push income.com announcements and product to.

I am optimistic - targeted traffic is as good as gold - millions of dollars have been spent to get targeted traffic and BlogRush provides it for free.
  • Raman · 2 years ago
Thanks a lot..I was wondering if I might lose my google adsense account if I install blogrush on my blog.
  • MaxBlogPress · 2 years ago
I recently developed a free wordpress plugin called "BlogRush Click Maximizer". By using it you can vastly improve your Click Through Rate.

This allows you to control what you want to display in BlogRush. You can even write alternate - short and catchy title just for BlogRush.

You will have total control of what appears over the BlogRush Network.

    Check it out here:

You might want to read this article:

    BlogRush Review

BlogRush accepted a lot of members and got them to promote their service. And how did BlogRush repay them? They deactivated their blogs and removed them from the system.

They did this to over 10,000 people just this weekend.

I can see sites not accepting a submision. But don't accept someone's submission, get them to promote your site, and then turn around and screw them over.

I am asking the same thing about the value of BlogRush. Is BlogRush doing anything for my site? I have a small time blog and my posts get about 100-500 impression to the widget. But I only ever about 1 click if I am lucky from those impressions. Here is my post about it and I would appreciate any feedback about others experience.
