However, the 1 Billion number isn't all that impressive. There are billions of texts sent around the world EVERY DAY.

A more important measure would be the trend over time. Has twitter traffic reached an inflection point? What is its MoM/YoY growth rate?

Again, I'm not a hater. It's changed how I communicate with a set of my friends.

Re: Twitter: One Billion Tweets. While trying to work with plurk and pounce, I still return to twitter. There are also huge amounts of software and sites dedicated to enriching the system.

Re: Twitter: One Billion Tweets. That tweet was status update record ID 29, an indication that some tests were done on the database during development."

Re: Twitter: One Billion Tweets. Jack Dorsey tweeted in Feb 2007, pointing to the 1 millionth one ... with a record ID in the 5 million range. Still a milestone just to watch the tweets roll over to another digit.

http://www.blogschmog.net/2...

Re: Twitter: One Billion Tweets. The Fail Whale hasn't made an appearance for a very long time which *definitely* helps your cause. Now just figure out how to make some $$ and it's all good ;)

Re: Twitter: One Billion Tweets. It's only as good as the people who use it, and it seems like there's an opportunity for another player to come in and do it better. Given Facebook's user base, I wonder if they'll come in with an application outside of their status updates. Although while I was looking at Twitter's Evri profile page, it was funny to see the open hostility toward their lack of public business plan.

Re: Twitter: One Billion Tweets. So from now, we see ads???

Re: Twitter: One Billion Tweets. Depressingly, it was posted by a headline bot. I got pretty close with my attempt--1,000,000,015--but, eh, horseshoes and hand grenades.
