Great response though. I can't deny that sometimes politics and money can make the situation more complicated. Thanks for pointing out those things from a corporate perspective.
Maybe not actually, but I wonder would it would take to make emails and messages portable in addition to more standard content. Probably a greasemonkey-like toolbar that scrapes and aggregates it all wherever you go.

Blackplanet.com was a start but then some left after a year or two (1999)Net Noir was there in the beginning but I have not kept up (1997).That is the same with Black Voices (1997).
Everyone I met minority wise when I first became acquainted with the online world has not found a community for themselves anymore. Some tend to create own networks from schools before even face book was thought about.
I worked with BET's (when it was known as msbet.com) first website in 1997 so it was interesting to see how that entire community has evolved. I do not follow it like I used to but I know a lot of teenagers enjoy the site for their gossip.
