I don't really think it's an inferior product Yahoo has, just different. Google Answers is able to tap into very niche specialists and give them an incentive to take their time and answer. Yahoo is great for things like songs you only know a few lyrics to, for example.

I actually run a Q&A service for getting buying advice, with the incentive for answerers being the potential of click-throughs on their affiliate links in their answers. So far, not exactly a raging success :) but I think the money in Google answers makes it fill a totally separate and important hole in the area.

With AOL acquiring Yedda, Askville stil in Beta, and Google Answers stirring in its sleep, it seems the big players are here to give Yahoo Answers a run for its money.

I personally think that there should be some consolidation in this area. There are a ton of small players, and the big companies haven't really gained traction, except Yahoo.

Anyone think that acquisitions are coming? Especially from MS?

I doubt MS will even try to make any acquisition on any part of Google, that's for sure. It would be too embarressing for them. Heck, I think it was embarressing as it was when Yahoo! turned them down.
I've never used either service, although I gave Mahalo a try but they're still in testing phases. Here's what I think : Mahalo has closely linked itself with Google, and so (I'm thinking) that they're going to want to link the service up once Mahalo takes off and has sorted out all the glitches.
