As soon as I read your review, I went to their site. Unfortunately, Grooveshark appears to be down... :(
  • Mike · 1 year ago
Unfortunately this happens all the time when a post is published a couple of hours earlier than the embargo time.

Something to consider, I read somewhere that apparently grooveshark wants to avoid paying royalty fees, contrary to last.fm and pandora. Does anyone know anything about this, because I don't see how that's supposed to work long-term.

Don, you broke their website. :)

Seems like you broke their site :-)

@Ron We're working on taking care of a couple small bugs (mostly getting our search function back up). Everything should be normal really soon (I've never seen this many of us awake this early on a Monday :-), and hopefully you won't run too far!

Also, let me know if there's anything I can do to help out/answer/chat about in the meantime or in the future: http://twitter.com/grooveshark .

    Thanks! <3

    Hi Ben! <3

I'll definitely be checking this out. I am an avid user of online music streaming at the office so I always welcome something new. Especially following rumors that Pandora may be closing it's doors.

When will GrooveShark have an iPhone app? That's the only place I listen to internet radio :)
  • Ron · 1 year ago
    Hello @Ben

I've signed up, logged on, downloaded all the apps. Unfortunately, Grooveshark complains about sharkbyte not running. Since I'm behind a company firewall, perhaps this is an issue?

    Thanks!

some off the top reasons it's worse than last.fm:
    - track metadata sucks
    - UI way too big
    - user supplied content (if I'm not mistaken)
    - The way I see it you're playing a label's content and then, what, you don't pay them? You really think that's gonna work out?

Ummmm...have you heard of a little site called imeem.com? ;)
It's the 3rd largest social networking site in the US, and the #1 music-streaming site in the US.
Take a look and let me know what you think.
    Disclaimer: I work there. :)

    There's also http://www.deezer.com !

Quite great, I'm in love with its design... And I heard it was 100% legal! Nice job then!

    It's a pity,I can't sign in :(

Yeah Grooveshark is great! However, I still didn't get used to this full flash interface, seems too... much, for me! I quite prefer a website like http://www.deezer.com/en which seems, by the way, to have a deeper catalogue! I saw on Billboard that they just signed with Warner!!!

Tempted by another listening solution again! Grooveshark looks great and I feel myself moving over, but starting from scratch on a new site is never fun. When are they going to start incorporating playlist portability??

Actually, the fact that it's NOT a social site is a HUGE plus. I mean, how does it make/break the experience knowing whether anyone else is kickin' some Ingrid Karklins, James Brown, and The Patridge Family? What's the point of individual ECLECTIC tastes if you're constantly wondering who else might be on board?
