This is funny, I just checked out the Digg Clone you mentioned, and they have Rebranded =)

As a Malaysian, I am very much ashamed that such mind numbingly blatant rip-off as the Digg.my service actually was implemented over here!

It's my belief that a select portion of Malaysians are quite into 'localizing' almost anything they can. Digg.my is such an example - and yet the sheer audacity of 99.99% total rip-off from every aspect of Digg can only speak volumes of the lack originality / creativity of those people who carried out this farce.

lnell? Well, that name (username?) pops up quite often with copycats or shall we say rip offs? Invested or is at least involved in yigg (stupid copy cat of digg) and also in wamadu.

But on the other hand, most of the successfull applications just dont spread fast enough into multi-language. Or even stupider, like facebook, allow only people with an .edu adress to signup.

That opens the market for rip offs.

That is just one problem with providing services with such a low barrier to entry. Innovation is bound to increase within this space as result of the competition. We'll see who can actually generate revenue from providing this service. Have any of these companies?

Do these me-too companies have APIs?
Separate client apps? Are the twitter clients compatible?

Hello, in principle I have no problem being affiliated with a twitter clone. The point is that we are providing a service similar to others, not based on our own original idea, but in many aspects better than what the competition has to offer. Agree or Disagree.

If an airline starts serving the route London New York, which has been served for many years by just one other airline, nobody would speak of a clone. It is just a new service , it envigorates competition and is good for consumers, because there is more choice,downward pressure on prices and an incentive to innovate.

The same thing is happening with all these alleged clones. They all rush to provide basically the same, but with time an increasingly differentiated service.

As far as I am concerned: The major shortcoming of Twitter is, that it is entirely focused un English speaking markets. As far as German language is concerned, we can do better than that.

Great. That "wamadu.de" did not even bother to create an own design, their logo is an obvious product of the "Web 2.0 logo creatr". :-D But never heard of it (nor about "frazr") before, despite being part of the German cultural sphere... StudiVZ on the contrary is extremely popular, despite of featuring a lengthy list of security holes and producing at least on scandal per month.
