It's a given that students shouldn't be using Myspace at school, whereas parents shouldn't be using it in the work place as well. But at home is your own free time. Myspace doesn't necessarily lead to such behavior as doing drugs, alcohol consumption, or pornography. Adolescents primarily conduct in using Myspace just for fun and to keep tabs on the newest trends and what is going on with their friends. Myspace is more of a way of social life. Sure there are pedophiles and weird people on Myspace, but the students should have enough of a brain to not engage in conversation with these people. Restraining children from doing what they want to an extent is basically causing the childs downfall. Because, as soon as mom, dad, and the school no longer have tabs on them anymore, they're going to do as they please. So morals need to be taught young, but the child has to live a little or they're never going to make it in the real world, no matter how much you try to fight this argument, it's been sociologically proven that depriving kids of learning experiences leads to awful situations later in life, because, they don't know how to react when it's set infront of them.

Re: Retentive Catholic School Bans MySpace – Even at Home

FUCK ALL YALLL bloomfield new jersey bitchesss!!1

Re: Retentive Catholic School Bans MySpace – Even at Home

P.S. Catholic school survivor here, and it's nice to see things haven't changed a bit. The real idiots here are the parents, however, for not standing up to the school. What is a better idea? Letting your kid have a MySpace profile you can monitor and KNOWING what he's doing online or letting the school tell you to tell him he CAN'T have one, so he sneaks off and recreates one behind your back and then you have NO idea what he's doing online.

AT some point, the Catholic Church will acknowledge that the 20th century occurred. I have no hopes of them joining us in the 21st.

Re: Retentive Catholic School Bans MySpace – Even at Home

wow! You guys can't get it right! She's banning the one dangerous social life of kids becuase of predators. The account that was made of her was after the incident. I agree yet i disagree with her decision; I think the adults should be aware of the fact that their children have myspaces, but it does keep these many children away from any predators, whom are very tricky and smart lurking around every corner to talk and act like a kid until they trap them. The smartest people make the dumbest decisions; people who are predators for example. I debate the fact that schools should be able to take advantage of these kids social life, as long as the parents are aware and reccognise the many dangers!

Re: Retentive Catholic School Bans MySpace – Even at Home

I went to St. Hugo. Better the school should educate the students about the perils involved in using MySpace. The brute-force approach just makes MySpace forbidden fruit, and we all know how that works. Anyway, it won't take the kids long to work around the edict. And the Catholic Church wonders why it is losing members...

Otis R.
