i dont think this business is very scalable. also think about showing your small ass sms message to a cashier when 30 people are in line. how are they going to get some of the businesses we really want? like small local ones.

    Hey Noah,

Nah, it's not sms - the coupons are part of the app (see the second screenshot). But yes, the number of retailers is limited right now.

i meant message not just sms. the text from a cellphone screen is quite small.

    Noah,
My feeling is that unless the cashier is blind, they should be able to read the screen. Plus, I can't see how more people in line would make the screen harder to read...
As far as businesses go, you have to applaud them for what they've done so far. I mean really, it's the first of it's kind and it takes a lot to get a retailer to pay for something without known results. I say give it time.

    Noah,
We have done several mobile coupon campaigns in SMS, J2ME and WAP and readability was never an issue. You can read your screen, right? Well so can a cashier at the same distance. There are some issues with mobile coupons, but readability has not been one.

I applaud them realizing the idea.

Isn't the biggest hurdle getting people to actually download the app? To me, it seems that exposure is the problem. Now, I believe that Cellfire is on the right track, but they need to focus on how to get the app on as many handsets as possible

The goal, to me, is to have the application pre-installed so that the user is used to it from day one, and it is ever-present. But we know that takes a lot of blood and sweat.

That said, Why not go WAP and try to strike a deal with carriers to have the link on the homepage? It seems a lot less messy

I have downloaded it and even used it within the first 24 hours. I had no problem with it at all. The cashier had no problem reading it or using the code. I am excited to see what the future holds for Cellfire. So far so good.
