Real Real shame this isnt an international competition, we are based in the UK and are about to launch a new paypal/facebook app, we are in final beta testing now. This would be the ideal way to try and launch the app, and Ive heard of several other apps coming out in this time frame which are ideal candidates.

Why have you closed the doors on any other countries, when facebook is such an inclusive international community. Surely this is shooting yourself in the foot somewhat? I know it may legally be easier, but the easy route isn't always the best!

*An update from PayPal*

The official rules of the contest have been changed, allowing developers to keep ownership of their application. We made this change because of feedback from our developer community and because it was the right thing to do. It was never our intent to mislead or confuse our contest participants and we apologize for the miscommunication. Also, we've extended the contest another two weeks to August 24 to give everyone more time to build some really cool Facebook applications.

"Contest" generally does not imply taking ownership. They are buying the application, and probably for a bargain basement price. A high quality paypal application (which implies it generates revenue) is most likely worth far more than $5-10K. But hey if they get entries good for them.

You should note that Paypal steals the app once they give it the "prize" by taking all ip rights immediately

great idea from them but I am disgusted that its US only when Paypal is worldwide. Shame I had 2 killer apps but I guess I'll use google cart instead...

Have you seen Lending Club's Facebook ap? Its like Propser or a micro-personal lending tree for Facebook. You would have thought that Pay Pal might have move into the personal loan business by now as well?
