"Toolbox: Top 25 Venture Capital Firms"

Come on, you HAVE to do this one... I'm sure there are many startups looking for funding.
  • MikeJones · 2 years ago
I like this one, the VC list and categorize them according to their specialty, interest, portfolio, etc.
  • Mani · 2 years ago
    I second this one!
  • jarvan · 2 years ago

    list of lists
  • Sean P. Aune · 2 years ago
We did one a while back, 5000+ Resources to Do Just About Anything Online. We may do one again down the line to update it.
  • AlexMerced · 2 years ago
make a seperate page of mashable lists, cause I refer back to these all the time, and it becomes a hassle since there's no direct way. Not all lists are on the 5000+ post, and not all lists are on the "also see"

How about best places to connect with talented programmers, developers, designers, etc?

White Label social networks and White Label virtual worlds / 3d chat spaces.
  • Sean P. Aune · 2 years ago
That's two votes so far for white label social networks, so it'll probably happen. The other one I will need to look in to.
  • AlexMerced · 2 years ago
like there's a popular article on the net of 9 white label social networks, corank.com wouldmake 10 but I'm still be looking around for other free white label hosts.

    http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/07/24/9-ways-to-...

that's the link with the main 9 + corank.com if you can find more I'd be ecstatic.
  • webholdem · 2 years ago
Count me as a third vote for a list of white label solutions. Make sure to include kuzoanexus.com when you do it too. :)

  • josh · 2 years ago
I'd love to see more quality rather than quantity. More than a couple of dozen items is too much for a single person to go through. Often I feel like the author of your lists just types their search term into Google and transcribes the results.

When I do actually look through the list the descriptions are often incorrect (the very first link on the SQL list was labelled as being for MySQL when it was very obviosuly for Oracle users).
  • Sean P. Aune · 2 years ago
Josh - What would feel is the optimal number of items for a list?

As for the Google comment, I would like to address that for a moment as I see it come up time and time again. I wish putting together the toolboxes was that simple, but it's not. A 30 item toolbox typically takes me between 4 - 5 hours, and that's only if things are going smoothly. Yes, I will go to Google, but only as my last resort. I prefer not to use it for the simple reason that anyone could go and do that. I have a number of resources I check to put these together, but I give you my word that Google is that absolute last one on my list.

On the one that was for Oracle, do you remember specifically which toolbox it was? I haven't done a MySQL specific one.
  • AlexMerced · 2 years ago
hmmm... I swear you did sql list, whatever happened to the CSS list, I remmeber there was one and it seemed to have dissapeared.
  • Sean P. Aune · 2 years ago
    Here's the CSS list.
  • goodcookn1310 · 2 years ago
how about a list of joomla info. this is a great open source CMS and it would be great to find other sites/people that work in joomla. also like ladiamond mention above about programmers, developers and designers that work in joomla.
  • Sean P. Aune · 2 years ago
I've been pondering a Joomla one for a while, so this will probably show up "soonish":)
  • goodcookn1310 · 2 years ago
    SWEET!
  • Sean P. Aune · 2 years ago
    "soonish" being... today.

  • Daniel Haas · 2 years ago
I'd love to see two lists:
    1. sportive social networks (e.g. ballhype)
    2. religious social networks (e.g. mychurch)
  • Sean P. Aune · 2 years ago
How about a combined "Specialized Social Networks" one? If we do interest specific ones, that would probably end up being really short.
  • Ryan · 2 years ago
top 30 bankable web 2.0 startups (based on momentum, prestige of investors, management, etc.)
  • Sean P. Aune · 2 years ago
The problem with anytime you name something as "top", it's bound to lead to a fight over what criteria was used, and that will be followed up by everyone saying "why did so-and-so make it to #1?!?"

How about 30 to watch, or similar?
  • aaron · 2 years ago
I agree with the list of lists. I find it hard to search for these lists using Mashable's search function when I might need them, and have resorted to starring every single one that comes across my Google Reader.
  • Sean P. Aune · 2 years ago
Aaron - We do the aggregators when we feel a series of toolboxes has run its course. (Like the recent 250+ Coding For The Web one) Is there a way you think they should be organized? A page indexing them? I've thought for awhile we should have some way to show them off, but I've been stumped as to how was the best way to do it.
  • Pete · 2 years ago
Just go back and tag them all "list". Problem solved. ;)
  • Sean P. Aune · 2 years ago
    ... I just got an assignment didn't I?

THANKS EVERYONE! *grumbles as he heads off to admin*
  • Pete · 2 years ago
Also, now that the readers are coming up with all the ideas for you, I'll be cutting your pay. ;)

    j/k :P
  • Sean P. Aune · 2 years ago
D'oh! I wasn't aware I could get less than "diddly squat"...

    j/k :-p

Best small social networks (small = less than 10,000 members)

Then I'll have something else to cross my fingers for :)
  • rodageo · 2 years ago
How about a list about political tools on the web? I'll also second the quality over quantity comment.
  • chnewton · 2 years ago
Love all the lists. What would be great is a directory of all the lists you have done in the past.
  • johnyzar · 2 years ago
I ld like to have a list with steps and reference sites for the path to success. here is the case.you have a beautiful idea but you need to make it live .So it would be great having a "how to do it" list or a "start up kit" list .Better from a list of lists...i think!
  • Sean P. Aune · 2 years ago
I've thought about doing this one from time to time, but as I have never done a startup, I need to learn about it!
  • searchstrategist · 2 years ago
A list of all the different mind mapping tools would be terrific.
  • Sean P. Aune · 2 years ago
I touched on Mind Mapping in the Work Together toolbox, but it certainly wasn't complete.
  • Mike · 2 years ago

  • nlupus · 2 years ago
I would really appreciate you doing a list of free/paid services to access my pc remotely.
    Thanks.
  • Pat · 2 years ago
I would appreciate, if there was a list about all those tools you can install to your own webspace, so you don't need to register anywhere and keep control of your data.
  • David A. Rozansky · 2 years ago
I found Mashable because I am always looking out for new social networking sites in the field of literature and media. How about a list of book-oriented social sites. It seems that book-sharing sites and writer-oriented sites are popping faster than I can keep track.

Also, even though you have tagged the lists with the tag "list," I still think having a navigation button to lead to a list of lists would be great. I can guess that the lists postings are the pages that draw the most interest, and having that archive easy to find will drive even more traffic. IN fact, I would bookmark it in a hurry.
  • Siddharth Mitra · 2 years ago
How about a list of sites for Free international texting( or sms)
  • Jessie Kernan · 1 year ago
    OK - so I'm a chick ...

    1) Social shopping sites
    2) Beauty blogs

I will admit a vested professional interest in the latter as I am working on launching TruthInAging.com (hint: please add it to the list!), but I would bet you have other female readers out there that would be interested as well!

Keep up the great work - I use your lists ALL THE TIME!
  • dan deyette · 7 months ago
I'd like to see a list of "profile pages" ie: ryze, linkedin, zoom, naymz etc... all the places you could sign up to get your name out there, control your online identity and possibly even remove that funny picture of you dancing on the table from Google that ranks higher than your blog for your own name! LOL (Don't go googling my name now!)
