I heard the European version will be unlocked and any SIM card will work in it. If I buy one can I register it online at iTunes? Will I be able to use my SIM card from the old AT&T? AT&T wants me to switch over badly because I have one of the original AT&T plans, before Cingular, that has unlimited calling for $99/mo.

Yeah. In Canada - Rogers the idiots they are are arguing with Apple over whether or not they'll be able to put their damn logo on the phone which apple will not permit.

It's so sad taht we only have one GSM carrier here since Rogers bought Fido.

I'm not sure why you guys don't know about it - But we had confirmation from O2 about the December release date for the iphone in the UK a few days after the US version was released.

What we don't yet know is if it will be the faster 3G version of the iphone, It's needed as we already have full multi-channel TV and films on our 3G equipped phones - and they'll have to offer a lot more than google maps and you-tube - such as GPS and 3G (things run a bit quicker on a multi-megabit mobile connection)

we thought it would be vodaphone who got the UK iphone deal - but O2 sneaked in there. :)

either way - it's going to be interesting to see how Europe takes to the iphone - or to see whether Apple updates it for its release.

During the conference call, it was stated that the announcement of carriers and locations in Europe would be announced THIS QUARTER (ending Sept. 30th) and that the launch would be NEXT QUARTER, which begins October 1st and goes 3 months. Essentially, the iPhone will be on sale in Europe before Christmas.

If the iPhone for Europe is able to be carried on multiple carriers, might it be possible to get a European version to work on a carrier other than AT&T in the U.S.?

I think they said end of 4th Calendar Quarter.. not fiscal. Which would mean, if it's anything like the current US launch, it's coming Dec 31st-ish :p
