No Twitter? (Twitter + 'dating' = infinite speed dating)
  • Pete Cashmore · 2 years ago
I heard crack addicts don't have time for dating.
  • Pete Cashmore · 2 years ago
    Twitter added.
  • RBA · 2 years ago
You mean, social networks aren't for people in a stable relationship or married couples? :-)

    Anyway, I'd vote for AdultFriendFinder.com
    Beat that :-)
  • Pete Cashmore · 2 years ago
Too true. I actually considered listing it, but it would make it an unfair contest. Also, dating sites would probably win if we listed those. Adult Friend Finder is an oddity: very successful ($200M+ annual revenue), but virtually unheard of. There's still a stigma around adult sites and always will be.
  • sean percival · 2 years ago
Yes, and ironically when he started his sites he didn't have the "adult" theme in mind. His members just took the site in that direction.
  • John Madison · 1 year ago
Adult friend finder has way too many,
"You think I am a bitch just because I know what I want." Type people.
  • RBA · 2 years ago
Well, your question was obviously in the line of "which of this non-specifically-made-for-dating social networks will get you laid the most", so I went a bit out of line with my answer, just because it was an easy one.
  • Pete Cashmore · 2 years ago
OK, we found the guy who voted for LinkedIn.
  • RBA · 2 years ago
Excuse me? :-) I haven't voted yet but I'm going to go with Facebook. College days, those are the days.
  • Tom · 2 years ago
Most likely to get you chlamydia: MySpace
  • Pete Cashmore · 2 years ago
STDs will be in the next survey.
  • violet · 2 years ago
to consider: tribe.net (at least in 2005 people got laid there), consumating.com, iminlikewithyou, flickr
  • john · 2 years ago
None of the social networks have helped me get laid.

If anything it's AIM. Since you take conversations from both social networks over to your Messengers and talk about meeting and hooking up.
  • Muneeb · 2 years ago
    Orkut
  • Nathan · 2 years ago
My vote is for the social network oriented around exactly that:

    GetThemLaid.com
  • Aziz · 2 years ago
    for Iranians it's definitely "Orkut"
  • Magnus · 2 years ago
No doubt, aSmallWorld makes it easy. LinkedIn a good runner up. Facebook would be good but in college you get laid anyway, so the network doesn t do much for you
  • Kaerast · 2 years ago
The only networks where I've met somebody before knowing them in real life are del.icio.us and flickr, del.icio.us was the better of the two because sharing all your bookmarks is more intimate than sharing the odd photo.

Facebook I only use to keep in touch with existing friends, which I guess helps. Also, MSN - instant messenger and msn spaces together provide a good way of keeping in touch with existing friends, which I guess could be used to get laid.
  • matt · 2 years ago
why can't i vote for craigslist? i have proof that it works
  • farmhand · 2 years ago
see this is the kind of blog questions i wanna see! u need to put faceparty on there

    Pete,

Please don't turn this blog into the ususal Techcrunch BS.

I'm currently researching the laying on Last.fm

I'll report back in a couple of weeks.
  • FauxSheezie · 2 years ago
Duuuude... it was all about HotOrNot back in the day.

HotOrNot paved the way... If it weren't for HotOrNot, the only chicks on MySpace would be nerdy anime girls.
  • BillyWarhol · 2 years ago
I can only Vouch fer Flickr*

    ;PPP
  • Pranav · 2 years ago
You missed out orkut. It's HUGE outside north America and very popular among youngsters in Brazil and India.
  • P-Air · 2 years ago
Tribe. Both Tribe & Craigslist drew on the same types of people and both were getting lots of action last time I checked in.
  • tom sheramn · 2 years ago
33 comments at time of posting... way more than anything else on the front page! lol

Anyway, Craigslist HAS to be on here. Pretty informal network, sure, but it qualifies -- and Lord knows it's easy to get action from there.

Was: Facebook. But only during my freshman year of college ... somehow its magic wore off after late 2004.

In fact, I'd say there is an inverse correlation between account age (or length of SNS use) and desire to meet new people.

It turns out there are some people (especially men, and yes, I am male) that really suck and brought bad vibes and perceptions to MySpace by the end of 2005. I noticed similar but delayed trends on Facebook and OKCupid (which is not on your list, but I'd say it has the highest lay potential at present.)

Apologies for posting anonymously to the public, but I guess you can say I'm somewhat of a 21-year-old authority on the SNS space wrt dating, privacy, and security. I'm coding a startup SNS that should address, if not solve, the aforementioned *ahem* clientèle issues.

    Cheers.

The problem with two "twits" going on a date is that their phone keeps beeping, telling them what fun all their other friends are having - it becomes a very unsocial date.

But, I still love twitter :)

    Lots of sex at Newsvine

    (ok very little sex)

If you're a gay male, then it's mCruising!

Find someone on your cell phone nearby looking for just that...

No one mentioned Fling.com ?... I'm not speaking from experience but a client of our company mentioned it last week. If you are 18 or older, take a look, this one hands down will get you laid!

Also not mentioned was the site I manage where tens of thousands of people hook up each year. Although that's not the intention of PlayCoed.com (the site allows organizers and participants to come together in a social network). Sports players and teams meet each other through recreational sports and the after game parties and there are numerous stories of hook ups, even marriages through meeting originally on the web.

getting lucky on myspace is how you get on the show NBC Dateline: How to catch a predator. You actually know your facebook friends
  • TXBug · 2 years ago
Here's a concept. Ditch the web sites, text - messaging, and other crap. Get out of the house and into the real world where real people live and breath. Here's another concept...talk to people face-to-face. See their eyes, hear their voice, experience each other's company. Here's a tip, if you go out into the wide world we live in, you don't have to post stupid, desperate, half-naked photos of yourself on the Internet, hoping that you will find that special someone who doesn't have five ex-spouses, or isn't an ax-murderer...
  • cande · 2 years ago
man, so true! social networks are meant mainly for dating...
  • Rich · 1 year ago
    Hey, TXBug,
    AMEN to that!
  • tommayy · 1 year ago
Honestly, it has to be myspace, I think the more sophisticated group went over to facebook and all the trash stayed at myspace, lol just my opinion.

    meetup.com... got laid twice
  • casualencounters · 6 months ago
Hilarious. Nearly all the profiles on Myspace are dead, bands, or fake. Good luck getting laid on that abortion.
