I started to pay GBP6, but when I realised I had to sign up I was a bit miffed. However I continued, but then I read the privacy statement, which basically said "You cannot opt-out from receiving our spam" I closed down the window. Don't know about the UK, but in NZ, that's illegal.

I paid ten pound for the album [11$ Canadian] and I think it was worth it to stick it to EMI, Steve Jobs, and HMV. It's a great album and I think more bands should follow their lead.

I believe Harvey Danger was one of the first bands to offer this 2 years ago. They took donations and I think it was a great busienss model. I gace $10.

It's also nice to see that (so far) the torrenting crowd isn't sharing those DRM-less files all over creation. After all, if you *really* want it for free, at least get it for free directly from the band.

Hey, actually the new Radiohead album isn't a free download. However, it is a DRM-free music file and you can choose how much you pay for it. Early reports suggest most fans are paying close to retail price for it. Considering they are releasing it independently, they are making considerably more money per sale because there's no middle man (assuming people are paying a fair price and sales are decent).
