Viacom screwed up in regards to stealing people's private information. They should have been much more subtle about it like a certain popular search engine is, possibly coming up with a neat little slogan to suggest they weren't doing anything sneaky, underhanded and especially not evil.

Right, I'm amused at how little people question that popular search engine habit of logging everything and everything they do with it. They have enough informations to do a lot of things that most people don't even think about.

The important thing is that internet users are becoming aware that the privacy of internet users needs to be clearly defined and it seems that in the Google/Viacom case people DO have somewhat of a say.

Here is a blogpost I wrote on just this:

Why is VAICOM so keen to know who is watching which video?
  • Jelson · 1 year ago
I also wonder why they want to know who is watching what, but generally in the fight against corporate government state oppression and subjugation of the citizens, it is a small victory. :-)
But more needs to be done!

Of course an IP address is personal. Not everyone has a dynamic IP address and those static addresses could be used to launch attacks on the people just because they don't like them. The courts finally did SOMETHING right.

This is good news! Long live net neutrality...I was just waiting for a court decision that had as much impact as the Can Spam act(I think that's what it was). Anyway, good for Youtube. With as much money as the movie industry makes, is it even possible for them to LOSE money?

I'm glad to see that American's have not lost all their rights yet. Of course, someone somewhere will show us why this is a bad decision in the end. The thing to keep in mind is that any decision made can be proved to be a good or bad decision by someone somewhere.
