I would like to see the ability to add video to profiles.

A quick way to add video to your profile is via Google Presentation - embed a YouTube video in your presentation, then put that presentation on your profile. Check this video to see a demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5PBmbvol0s

    Oh, smart!

I just discovered that you can also play Flash video files (.flv) through Box.net. So convert your files to .flv, then drop them in your Box, and when people click on them, they'll play in the window. Richard Branson's profile has a good example (click through to the full profile) : www.linkedin.com/in/sirrichardbranson

I'd have to say Google Calendar is a must. Google Reader might be good, but might overload the system.

Microsoft Office Web (when it launches). To compete with Google Docs AND Zoho Office.
  • Craig · 1 year ago
But think about it, why would I use Office products or docs on LinkedIn, when i can easily go to the respective sites and utilize the full browser.

These apps are great but it will slowly lose its steam similar to Facebook. Based on Jeremiah Owyang's post, it looks like LinkedIn will slowly focus less on front end networking and move towards enterprise networking. It has been evident based on the lack of attention users have been getting on LinkedIn's basic networking features, especially with all the errors and issues that have lasted for more than 2 months now. It is a perfect opportunity for another networking site to fill that gap.

Hey Pete - have you checked out the Huddle Workspaces app? It has full integration with Zoho for creating / editing / viewing docs and spreadsheets.
  • Sean Lindo · 1 year ago
Hello, this is Sean at Box.net. I just wanted to mention that Box.net has full integration with Zoho and ThinkFree, allowing users to open and edit Office files like Word, Excel and PowerPoint within the browser.
  • Pete · 1 year ago
Oh, cool. Yup, looks like Zoho is possible through both those methods - thanks for heads up!

I would like to see applications become available for groups also, and to be able to present the weblog news to the linkedin group members.

After reading Pete's five and the follow-ups, I came up w/ about 10 others (http://snurl.com/4urqr). The highlights: Yammer, Skype, WebEx (or GoToMeeting), FreeConference, SalesForce, ConceptShare and Outlook. Then, later, Quickbooks, PayPal and Qgia.

Also, after implemening the initial apps (hopefully less than Facebook's 24,000 or even iPhone's 500), they could push services out a la Facebook. Would serve to make them the book-of-record for personal profiles.

I think there are some basic stuff they need to do, before they try to become the end all be all platform.

First some basic stuff like better communications and content... e.g. press, blogs, photos, videos - like every other social network

to be honest, I think the idea that people will integrate all these apps into LI and use them as part of LI is absurd, especially since LI is proned to kick people off, shut down access - which makes you really screwed if you have all your data on their service.

Sorry about the above commercial. Thought was still setting up the Gravatar!

We just wanted to say that we added video to our LinkedIn profile using the PowerPoint App. Worked great! You can check it out if you like.
