It's a funny running joke that Al Gore invented the internet but it is true that he was the first big time politician to talk openly about the value of the "Information Super Highway" as he called it back then.
Also, little known fact, Gore almost purchased DIGG a couple years ago. Ask Kevin Rose and he'll admit it. Al's been making serious money online for years.
Too bad he couldn't get someone to perfect an online voting booth in time. That would've taken care of all those hanging chads.

Gore and Internet Invention: Arpanet coursed its way from DoD labs into corporate labs, then college campus computer labs, where librarians were assigned file directories and added non-research content and access for non-research people and thus inadvertently created a national information infrastructure. If you've spent downtime with Al in person, he's got a great, biting wit. I think he'll take to Twitter like a duck on water. It suits him to be, in a sense, just another voice snarking on life.
And I hope he's not like most politicians on Twitter and actually posts about the mundane things he does, like the scene in "An Inconvenient Truth" where he's going through security at an airport. No need to promote politics and environmental issues there -- others are doing that. Just be Al the family guy and Nashville resident going to Whole Foods like half of Green Hills.

I've had a chance to meet (be at the same event as) Al Gore several times. He is energetic, playful, charismatic, and funny.
I think that if 10% of that "real self" was able to come through in his run for office he'd be sitting in the White House.
He's been doing the most important work I could imagine and I'd be glad to see what he has to tweet about.
