Mashable - The Social Media Guide: 2006/08/28/kaboodle-gets-widgetized/

All these product sites are great, but so boring. Stuff does not define people, the way they use the stuff does. This is not hypersocial, it is hypersocial tools grafted onto something that is deeply unsocial. It's not cool to show someone a bunch of your stuff in a row. Imagine if your friend pulled out his Treo, PSP, XBOX, APC Jeans, Chanel watch, Audi A6, 82 Chateau Margaux, MacBook Pro, Nike Air MAXs, IKEA shelving, etc.

    You'd think "What a douche"

But, seeing those things in context with the same individual, you might think "hmm, interesting" or "oh that's cool", whatever. In context, stuff is cool and social. Stripped of context, it's lame as hell.

And that's exactly what all these social shopping sites lack, the context. The context is what is actually fun and interesting, because deep down we all know that stuff is just stuff. Whoever figures out how to create context around these items is the social shopping site that's actually going to nail it.

"Kaboodle seems to be on a roll - I can only imagine that they’re headed for acquisition further down the road."

Are you sure about that? Do you have any traffic stats on Kaboodle that you can share with us? According to Alexa, Kaboodle's traffic volume is mediocre and stagnant - even following a small spike in June when the eBay partnership launched. As you know, the value of a social site like Kaboodle is in its userbase and traffic reach. Until they demonstrate significant growth in this aspect, I just can't see them as being an attractive acquisition candidate.

Of course, if Alexa's data is grossly inaccurate then the situation may be very different.

Did u check this page Pete for the Shopping.com integration? This is basically a simple API integration ...and one that went bad on this page:

    http://www.kaboodle.com/za/itemdetail?pid=AAAAB...

    hello,

Yeah, I posted the news before the new site went live - but it's true that simple API integration shouldn't really be promoted as a "partnership".

Great comment Terrence! I completely agree with you. I just don't see consumers adopting shopping bookmark sites as shopping destinations. The competition is just too fierce with companies like Epinions, Shopzilla and Pricegrabber dominating the scene. This is a market that's not easily won over by innovation. Shoppers demand so much more.
