Xanga just added messaging. So users can send private messages to each other now. Also, it looks like they will be opening the blog up. Check out John's (Xanga's CEO) latest post...

"Most exciting of all: if this spam filtering technology works, we can also use it to open up comments on Xanga blog posts. Then non-Xangans could leave comments too! That's one of our top feature requests, so we're very excited to be starting down this path."

Most glaring oversight? How about the fact that after you vote they don't show you the current results? Part of the charm of these things is to see how your opinion compares the the general population. Otherwise where's the fun?

Pete, you mentioned that it's not a new idea. Are there any other sites that put photos (or anything else) side-by-side and ask you to choose which you like better?

Bill, after you vote, you can see the current results at the top (in the small thumbnails).

    Al,

For a more edgy take on a similar idea, see FKMarry.com - I wasn't gonna include it in the body of the post in case people get offended. They also have a MySpace widget.

Nice - very nice. I hadn't thought about it before, but this type of thing could be the ideal strategy for taking content from a free-for-all posting scenario (flickr) and bubble it up to be monetized as microstock (istockphoto).
That's a viable web2 business model you can take to the bank.

Nice intuitive design. Lycos also recently launch something similar:
