I disabled the Skype extension and that has helped 110%. With multiple tabs, FF was using over 500MB of memory!

Same here. I like FF, but I can't trust it anymore. It's too flaky.

I'm with Jorge Alvarez,

Firefox 2.0.0.6 running on Ubuntu Linux, works fine :)

It's a hog on Windows, but on Linux it runs like a dream!

I just recently installed Opera. It's pretty. It does right out of the box what Firefox takes a ton of extensions to do. The interface is wonderful bringing tabbed browsing to all aspects of use not just surfing. It really loses the fight, though, against Firefox's greatest asset. Customization. No extensions just widgets which are as useless as the name suggests. No longer do I have my StumbleUpon toolbar or right click access to common html tasks. What I got is a friggin aquarium!

I've been using the recent FF installation and only problem I've had with it was due to some obscure extensions that I've since removed, can't remember which ones. Love FF but always live in fear it will crash ...

oh, just remembered, I haven't been able to use blogger.com to blog with it as it doesn't allow me to use spaces between words. Have no idea what is up with that. maybe it's just blogger?

I have 1.0.7 and all is working good, (if i don't enable the webdevelop extension, of course).
I really am scared of these horror stories about 1.5... is it really that bad? I am sticking on 1.0.7.

I have no extensions..I still get that annoying "firefox has caused an error and will exit"..

i have 1.5.0.1. Could it be the themes? Im using Noia 2.0..anyone else with this theme getting this problem?

yeah FF sucks,,,but have a nonextensible browser...well that sux...Pete, try performancing for a bit and see if want to live without it ...it think its the beginning of a new way of communication...

memory is free anyway.

Update: Okay, a fresh reinstall didn't fix it, but after much prodding I've finally got FF running on this machine again - no idea what the issue was. Opera was nice, but the fact that CoComment didn't work really annoyed me. Let's hope FF plays nicely this time.

I recently had issues with firefox on one of my profiles, where I couldn't load it at all, yet on the other it was fine. I had a SessionSaver extension that I have since removed. On top of which I had to delete all the data in the AppData\Mozilla folder on that profile. It's back to working fine 99% of the time. Once in awhile I'll try to open Gmail and it will crash but it's not often enough to make me swap.

I use Firefox (1.5.0.1 now) since the 0.7 days with about 10 extensios.

No problems, no memory leaks, performance is ok.

My o.s. is Suse Linux... maybe you all employ the right browser on the wrong o.s.

True. Firefox's significant performance decline with or without extensions/plugins is (good for IE) a major issue.

Although I'm still using Firefox, but I'm waiting for IE7's final release.

We all want the responsiveness of Opera, the look of the KHTML engine, and the features of Firefox. I keep saying I'm going to drop ff as well and I currently have Safari, Firefox, and Opera on my dock. I'll leave Firefox for a week but then some page just won't render properly, I'll really wish I had draggable tabs, or I just really miss sage, and then I'm right back to Firefox. Best of luck quitting Firefox, but you have to report back in a month and tell us whether you've stayed clean of the habit or not.

My firefox often uses half my memory (which currenly isn't hard because I don't have much). Don't know if this will ease your woes, but someone posted it on Digg a few days ago to explain the latest memory leak theory. http://weblogs.mozillazine..... I'm going to stick with it (aftre trying Opera) if only for the extensions :)

There is no denying FF is not perfect. But I believe that it will get better.

Opera is faster when using the back button, on my computer, but otherwise, it's no faster than FF (for me). It's a great browser too, but I found it was just too confusing to customize it as I could with Firefox (I tried several times but gave up). I can only use it for simple browsing, not much more.
