Yes, you can certainly make my argument out to be something of a stretch. Popfly is but a pebble in the Redmond bucket. That is why I make a point to call Popfly a sort of microcosm of the unusual state Microsoft is in. I was basically only looking to point out the irony (or whatever word best describes the picture show by the sourced New York Times article).

And the way you tied in the "confidence and bravery" line with the bid for Yahoo! is seriously impressive. I'll be honest, at the moment that I wrote the closing, I did not have Microshoo! in mind.

I don't think that it's a poorly-written article. It does seem to make a big jump from hiding one statistic (number of Popfly users) to the state of Microsoft.
But we shouldn't be surprised to see Mashable writing about Microsoft's mashup editor.
Paul's implication that the bid for Yahoo doesn't indicate "confidence and bravery on the public stage" is interesting...
