web2wave is the next evolution of an online bookmark site.... One that does not require you to read and allows you to flip through images of home pages. Once you recognize it you can click to be transported into the advertising loaded pages...

Hmm thats is exactly what I am trying to avoid with netvibes. I like to read what is available on the web without having to browse from one site on to the other.

So if you are interested in CONTENT use netvibes.
If you are lazy and do not even care to read your bookmarks use the picture flipper - web2wave.

Netvibes is probably the best web-based RSS aggregator but why not aggregating web sites rather than RSS feeds ?
Find what youâ€™re looking for by flipping through pictures rather than by scanning a list of text entries.

Netvibes remains in my opinion the best web-based RSS reader...I invite any readers to challenge this statement,please submit your alternatives 'cos I can't find anything better!

Max: Yep I agree with you to a certain degree. I don't see the invite-while-in-beta system as A Bad Thing(tm) per se, but the experience with Netvibes was worse than most.

Firstly, I went to my normal Netvibes page and got a message about Ginger - that's how I found out about it. Then it wanted an invite code - why advertise it to me with a popup then want an invite code? I requested an invite code, one arrived fairly quickly but it didn't work.

Clearly still a beta product....

Anyway, if you want a code, you can request one from http://ginger.netvibes.com (top right hand corner has a link in the signup section).

I like the idea of having a Facebook-like page (Universe) and a start page under the same system, but if either segment is second-rate then it's gonna fail. Netvibes has committed to a first-rate social network (which depends on getting people in there and, y'know, socialising) /and/ a first-rate start page, and to be fair, iGoogle is just cooler. Netvibes lacks the funky dynamic themes, for one thing.

It'll be interesting to see how it does though.

I've been using Ginger for a few weeks now and it's great! I'm glad that everyone else will finally get a chance to enjoy it. Netvibes is far and away the best of the RSS aggregate sites and an excellent homepage for anyone as it's so customizable.

I liked the UI advances for when adding new pages and widgets etc.. but aside from that, and probably because I'm not so big on the facespooks, Ginger gave me nothing new. That said I think it's still the best start page..
