    I think its just another business ploy to decrease any work lifestyle which might involve a bit of balance.
    To me it appears as if the business world is more concerned with statistical performance of the workplace and less about developing an appropriate attitude to work. The more technology we have the more we tend to become tied to our workplace, blending our external(real) lives with our worklives.

    To put it simply, employers may ban it because they don't understand it and don't realize how they can leverage it for their business. They should be allowing Facebook and social media to start conversations and increase communications company-wide. Evidently they don't understand how to leverage the applications, which could show that it is more beneficial than ever realized.

    It's also banned in Ontario (provincial) Gov't offices. For what that's worth.
