I spoke with Jeff Clark of Tech America (a party to recent legislation concerning sex offenders and social media). While it is true that all of these sex offenders are being discovered, Mr. Clark admitted that he was not quite sure if any or how many where engaged in illegal or inappropriate activity. Several sex offenders with whom I have spoken who were removed summarily from myspace and facebook were juveniles when they committed their offenses. Two of these people are no longer required to register but the Texas Department of Public Safety has no mechanism to remove a person once their duty to register expires.

I think we just got another WMD argument from Texas Republicans.

I'm happy they busted these assholes but I wonder how they track them down? It seems like any perv could set up a fake ID on a borrowed computer.

some facts u should take VERY seriously while registering on myspace or facebook:

michigan had well over 350 registered sex offenders that were frequent myspace users.
- 68% had a parol agreement not to use a computer.
- 52% were convicted child molesters.

michigan also had another 150+ registered sex offenders on facebook.
- 57% had a parol agreement not to use a computer.
- a shocking 89% were convicted child molesters.
