I love netvibes, but I predict that this will be a total flop. There are plenty of useful applications on facebook that get no traffic. Sure, a netvibes app will get some use from existing netvibes users and maybe even some of their friends will signup.. but I can't see it becoming viral to any degree.

Cheesy social network games spread because they are viral in nature and are simple, easy to understand tools for interacting with your friends. Netvibes has a great platform, but it's hard to see how they could fit all that into a simple package that facebook users would want to add to their profile and share with friends.

I agree with the above about flopping, because I use Netvibes as a start page. I don't see where they come in with all this sharing of photos and news and stuff (I use Facebook for that!). Ever since they moved to Ginger and added all this Universe and Activities stuff, I have found no use for it all. I think they should work harder to leverage their core strength instead of throwing so much into sharing. PageFlakes has some better widgets, PageOnce has more useful functionality, but for some reason I stick with netvibes. I wish they would just focus.

I predict this will be as sucessful as Netvibes Ginger's social network...in other words, a total failure. The last signs of desperation from a dying Web 2.0 dinosaur...

I agree with the above comments, this just a poor move on Netvibes' part. Considering all the economic struggles and downturns (this will not blow over anytime soon) all web companies really should just stop feeding the facebook app platform (which brings no bottom line revenue to a business) and focus on their core strengths and revenue creation. Facebook app fun is over, and businesses need to build on their platform and on their business models, not someone else's.

Likewise we need, as a community of developers and bloggers, to stop focusing on user acquisition and instead on profit and losses (real profit and losses after capital expenditures). I would much rather own a company with 5 million users that is truly profitable then have a 100 million users and just wing it. Giant banks are closing, Iceland is almost bankrupt, time to forget user acquisition, who cares, business models folks, business models.
