Isn't it ironic that the UAE should pride itself on being a pioneer for development in the Middle East, yet once again it has stifled people's freedom to enjoy closing the gap between friends and loved ones far away.

I'm living in United Arab Emirates, and I can access facebook flawlessly, they did block it a few months ago for a few days but they reverted under users' insistence.

I was just in the UAE last week. Flickr is blocked there too and VoIP is not allowed in that country so I wasn't able to use Skype.

The online community is changing fast there but we can't expect it to happen overnight. As the technology in that country evolves, so will the legislation and telecom provisions.

It's just your own idea to call my country (Iran) a repressive regime! I think repressive regimes are most in western countries while you miss understood Iran cause of watching news on repressive medias such as CNN, FOX News and bla bla.

What is most disturbing to me personally is that a social networking website that I built on July 13, 2008 was censored in the UAE the following day, on July 14, 2008. The Hotel SEO Executives is a group that tallies only 20 members to date. It is a network of hoteliers and SEO executives worldwide that collaboratively exchange ideas and information pertaining to search engine optimization in the hotel industry. Hardly a threatening group! Definitely not an organization that would harm “the religious, cultural, political and moral values of the United Arab Emirates!” But yet a Hyatt Dubai hotel executive was blocked by Etisalat from registering on just that site.

The popular dating and community site are also blocked in Dubai United Arab Emirates. This is crazy. They have the best community ever and now I can not use it any more......

These things seem to come and go. Sometimes you can get through and sometimes you are blocked. Changing locations sometimes makes a difference too.
