There is also a new one under the sun, available at http://www.intodit.com. Intodit is already in the wiki matrix overview site, and it's main advantage is its user friendliness and flexibility.

I asked a question in September and I haven't really seen any responses. I suppose the person that wrote this piece has left Masahable? I was wonder if there was a hosted wiki that would allow creater/members to post their own ads or share in add revenue. I have thought about starting a couple of wikis but I'm not too keen if all revenue will go to the host. Any recomendations. I don't really wish to look at all 30 sites to make this determination. Thank you.

Hi Seth,

Just came across this page. I evaluated 4 wikis (self-hosted) last month for my client's knowledge sharing. These are (in my order of preference) dekiwiki, pmwiki, mediawiki, perspective.

All wikis are open-source. Of these 4, I can see obnly mediawiki in your top-list. It surprises me and at the same time it scares me whether I have made the right decision to go ahead with dekiwiki.

Will truly appreciate your comments/feedback/advice.

I'm looking for a hosted wiki that will allow me place some of my own ads and so on. It doesn't matter if the hosted wiki is ad supported but I would like to be able to place some of my own ads. Do you know of any that allow this?

You mention MindTouch http://www.Wik.is , but it's very important to note MindTouch has several options and is open source. MindTouch Deki Wiki is actually a very popular free open source wiki and the version at www.Wik.is is currently several releases old and only a subset of the overal features provided by Deki Wiki.

Good roundup. FYI, Socialtext has both a hosted version and a variety of options that you would put in your second category: open source download, VMware download, on-site and managed service appliance.
