Sites CSS file isn't loading for me. Not a good start I must say.

The thing that makes it very much a 'lose' situation for me is that content is still only being drawn in from a certain number of sites, and that you have to apply for your sites content to appear on Buzz. It's not like Digg's system - whereby you can submit stories from any website.

    http://publisher.buzz.yahoo.com/about

...maybe this is just because it's in Alpha, though.

I think Yahoo! make some good services, like Yahoo! Answers, but they quickly become a mess and full of idiots, like Yahoo! Answers.

    Amen to that!

The original yahoo Buzz was a useful tool. This mess here is terrible. It has not value to me as a user and will not be in my regular rotation of sites to visit.

This site isn't a threat to Digg, because it's built for the masses. And, as you hint, it's actually perfect for the masses.

It's focused on traditional news, entertainment, and sports. It won't be dominated by linux dorks or Paul-tards. It can't be gamed by a small horde of myopic dweebs.

It's actually attractive. You can get a lot of information without working too hard or trying to figure out the design. The integrated photo interface up top does what Google News (Image View) attempts to do with an entirely separate and inferior interface.

In fact, Google News is real comparison point. You're assuming (because of the Buzz Up feature) that Yahoo's target is Digg or Techmeme, but they're really attempting to crack a nut that lots of people are trying to solve right now: how can you build an interactive semi-social news site that normal people will actually use?

As Mixx.com is finding out, you can't reach a general audience by building a better Digg. Normal people don't understand Digg.

    But they'll *get* Yahoo's Buzz.

Wow, looks like a Buzznet clone in many respects (text, colors, page layout). And I think Buzznet was there first… and has a trademark. See the similarity for yourself:

    BUZZNET:

    What the Buzz?
Buzznet users cast their votes for their favorite content with the +Buzz buttons.

Adding Buzz is like giving a thumbs up. Buzz is the way our community decides what’s cool. Plus-Buzz buttons throughout Buzznet show what’s bubbling up for our users:

    On the Homepage:

    YAHOO BUZZ:

    What’s all the buzz about?

Yahoo! Buzz features the most popular stories right now, determined by people around the Web. A story’s Buzz Score is based on your votes, searches, emails, and more.

Stories with the highest Buzz Score may be displayed on the Yahoo! homepage.

Give your favorite stories the buzz!

I wholeheartedly agree with the colorfully-worded comment by mrshl:

"This site isn't a threat to Digg, because it's built for the masses. And, as you hint, it's actually perfect for the masses.

It's focused on traditional news, entertainment, and sports. It won't be dominated by linux dorks or Paul-tards. It can't be gamed by a small horde of myopic dweebs."

For this reason, I like what Yahoo has done. As for the UI, Digg might be a little cleaner, but just a little. Both are about content, and Yahoo's UI doesn't get in the way by any stretch of the imagination.

The only disappointing thing about Y! Buzz as far as I'm concerned is the absence of an RSS feed. Maybe they'll add one, but I'm not holding my breath, since they'd lose the page views.

I like http://www.subbmitt.com. All stories end up on the front page and the site doesn't get stale like reddit.

    Good review! :)
There is no innovation involved in the yahoo buzz at all. It sounds like a big guy try to push all other players away...

Yahoo buzz just seems a copy work, there isn't much creativity, there are tons of digg like services. i was hoping to see something new. yahoo buzz don't even seems to be some where near to close to Digg.
