It is twitter's simplicity that is so appealing in this hectic overcomplicated world. It is easy and straightforward to use. You can send to the whole world or just one person. What Pownce has that I like is the option to send a message to "sets" of people. Twitter needs that functionality to make it a bit better I believe.

However, where Pownce doesn't pownce very well is with SMS text messaging via the cell phone. Adolescents and young people (heck all of us) are with our cell phones 24/7 ... and I MUST has this feature as I use twitter for educational purposes. You can easily get your EFL English students to brainstorm in a fury with twitter .. and the next day, everything is neatly listed on the Web to start the project or discussion. Pownce requires you to be tied to a web-based interface and computer.

I need SMS for educational dynamics, sorry! twitter indivudually crafted designs are much more funky, interesting and fun, rather than selecting from 4 polished everybody-has-the-same templates in Pownce.

I don't care about file attachments for fast off the cuff snippets exchanges .... I'll keep trying Pownce to discover its benefits, but I will use twitter more (but wish it did have "sets").

THanks

Re: Pownce: Against All Odds, Pownce Blew Us Away

If anyone can send me an invite I would really appreciate it:

elliottrashaccount@gmail.com

Re: Pownce: Against All Odds, Pownce Blew Us Away

give it a chance. its awesome

Re: Pownce: Against All Odds, Pownce Blew Us Away

I got my invitation and installed Pownce. I don't get it. Correction... I do get it, but I don't see how using Pownce will be advantageous for me. All the features offered are already available in email, blogs, IM, and facebook. I don't think a simple consolidation of features is enough to penetrate the market. Who is the market? I could be wrong but I think the market is Geeks and nerds who are already predisposed to using best of breed applications for individual tasks. To be truly disruptive, your service must be 10 times cheaper, 10 times faster, or 10 times better. I don't see this from Pownce. I'm curious why Rose didn't put his energies into building a similar app for heavy Digg users. You know... to bring digging to the desktop. Doing a tight Digg integration in a desktop app seems like a better play to me since Digg already has gobs of users.

Re: Pownce: Against All Odds, Pownce Blew Us Away

Hi, I’d like an invite.

Re: Pownce: Against All Odds, Pownce Blew Us Away

this is a nice review, i believe kevin rose has a good thing going with this, and being that they have a terrific app running off of adobe air, they should get somewhere far with this. i would love to have an invite from you guys, i have the pounce app for air and i would love to use it, but i cant without an invite, so could you please send me one. email is richardkillingsworth2006@gmail.com. thanks and cheers.

Re: Pownce: Against All Odds, Pownce Blew Us Away

What can you do with Pownce that you can't do IM and email?

Re: Pownce: Against All Odds, Pownce Blew Us Away

Hi, I'd like an invite.
marc_callec@hotmail.com

Re: Pownce: Against All Odds, Pownce Blew Us Away

hey!
it would be great if anyone has an invite left for me.
please send it to dittrich.frank [at] web.de

Re: Pownce: Against All Odds, Pownce Blew Us Away

It's still buggy. For example, when you have the browser/IM thingy open and you're logged in, you should automatically be logged into the site, but you're not. So if you reply to a comment, you'll lose your reply at the login page. I find that very annoying.

Also, when you minimize the IM thing, it doesn't go to tray like other IMs do. That means it's taking up valuable space.

And so far it's only techgeeks using it, which means it's a waste of time for bands and musicians or other artists. Maybe when it is opened up to the average user it will be able to compete with Myspace for bands.

Re: Pownce: Against All Odds, Pownce Blew Us Away

I have some extra invites:

jeremy dot farrar at gmail dot com

Re: Pownce: Against All Odds, Pownce Blew Us Away

Hey, can U send me an invite for this pownce?
