Firefox 4.0: New Design Changes Revealed [IMAGES]
http://www.twitter.com/iJohn
I've realized how important avatars have become in my consumption of twitter feeds - I can instantly recognize a twitterer from their longtime avatar and it greatly speeds up how I parse through the string of posts, as well aids in visual searching for "that thing that that person twittered a few hours ago." When 15 people I follow decide to change their avatar at once, I'm suddenly left without that benefit.
Furthermore, when quickly skimming through all of these anime avatars, they pretty much look the same - it's not that easy to identify one colorful manga head from another, especially when said manga head only tenuously looks like the original Twitterer. The basic structure of each avatar is similar (round shape on the heavily-favored light blue background). Which again prevents quick scanning of the Twitter feed. At least for me anyways.
Bottom line, I hope the trend ends sooner rather than later. :/

By the way, that jawline for Pete's avatar is pretty much spot on. I'm impressed. Not sure why, but I am!

It's fun -- don't know how long I'll keep it, but I get tired of my face staring at me all the time, and my graphic design skills aren't good enough to design anything else...
Look out for the official NewsCred launch next Tuesday!
I like them, and I'll use them, but I don't like the process of actually making them, so if someone else makes one of me, I will use and enjoy it.

Also, I think there is a fascination with tinkering with our looks. Some people complain because the website doesn't let them reproduce themselves accurately. Others, like myself, experiment with different "personalities," creating one manga for normal, one for mad scientist, one for what I looked like as a kid, even a superhero one.
It gives me some insight into the feeling great masters must feel like when they paint self-portraits (Van Gogh, Picasso, Rembrandt, etc.)
I'm writing a blog post right now about this fascination at: http://blog.themudflap.com
Doesn't really look like me but it's the best I could do...

All good fun.
Why are there so many twitter posts again recently? Are they paying you Pete? :0)
